This is one of the most accomplished and impactful land trusts in the nation. They were one of the first to become nationally Accredited for demonstrating the highest standards of good governance, ethical practice, and transparancy in their land transactions, and other policies and procedcures. I was involved in leading this organization as its Executive Director in its early years, and in the last 20+ years under the leadership of Rebecca Thornton and the strong staff and Board of Directors, it has acheived tremendous success, protecting some of the most important working farm, forest, and scenic landscapes in Dutchess County, NY for public benefit, within a day's drive of 1 in 12 Americans. We need more organizations like this that balance good growth with conservation. They have enhanced the quality of life in the Hudson River Valley and continue to provide options to landowners seeking to protect land through voluntary private action at no cost to the taxpayers. A very donor-worthy charity doing great work!
