The main reason I support this non-profit is 1) the fact that take in previously rounded up and/or adopted wild horses and burros and returns them to a life similar to what they experienced in the wild. Barbara Clarke also takes in aged and/or retired domestic horses. Her statement on her website is: "When one works on animal issues, one is working on the first rung of the ladder that leads us up toward a more compassionate, inclusive and humane community." She also points out the connection, discovered by researchers involved in both children services and animal welfare, that show overlapping circles of domestic violence, child abuse and animal cruelty. To work toward a more humane world for animals is to work toward a more humane world for people also."
My goal is to raise awareness of what she's doing for these horses and help fund donations for her to have a small motorcyle or 4 wheeler to use when she goes out to check on the horses or bring some in for medical attention. Currently she accomplishes this on foot! These animals have a sense of real freedom while being safely watched over and cared for if needed. My goal is to win the lottery and help her to continue the amazing work she does - just not on foot anymore! LOL
