bail reform program: in an effort to assist nonviolent misdemeanor offenders with continuing their lives (jobs, school, and family commitments)during the pendency of their trials, the dr. Willie wilson foundation found that these individuals were held (in jail)because of their inability to meet minimum bail requirements. As a result, the foundation posted bail for hundreds of individuals so they could continue their lives during this period. By shining a light on the need for bail reform, the dr. Willie wilson foundation supported house bill 3717. The bill was passed and signed into law on june 9, 2017. Now, nonviolent misdemeanor offenders no longer sit in jail because of their inability to post bail.
