Mission: The mission of the Downingtown Area Senior Center is to enrich the lives of our senior neighbors by encouraging their active involvement in programs and services that have been designed to foster self-reliance and wellness.
Results: Program Statistics: July 1, 2015 – June 30, 2016: • Active Older Adults Program: o Offered more than 15 health and wellness classes per week, giving seniors access to more than 850 hours of exercise classes o Provided 1750 hours for socialization, games, and social activities o Determined through Functional Fitness Tests that 85% of regular health and wellness class participants maintain or improve their physical abilities • Circle of Care: o Helped slow cognitive decline for 6 seniors through special Circle of Care activities and general social-assistance within the Center’s regular programming o Provided over 1000 hours of relief for family and caretakers of Circle of Care participants • Information, Assistance and Benefits Counseling (I&A): o Provided answers or referrals to more than 575 requests for information o Provided one-on-one counseling and assistance to more than 325 individuals, for government entitlement programs, health insurance counseling, and/or making referrals for additional services • Nutrition: o Continental Breakfast – more than 3,000 continental breakfasts served o Congregate Lunch Meals – more than 8,900 congregate meals served o Handed out over 1,200 bags of fresh produce in collaboration with the Chester County Food Bank • Volunteers: o More than 100 volunteers logged over 6,100 hours, saving the Center more than $115,000 o 30% of Center Volunteers are senior participants giving back to their Center

Programs: Health and wellness classes such as: balance & flexibility, Tai Chi, Wake up! Cardio, walking club, yoga, and aquatics; art class, birthday and holiday parties, blood pressure screening, bingo, chorus, flower arranging, socialization, games, Circle of Care (for seniors with mild to moderate dementia ), continental breakfast, congregate lunch, fresh produce through the Chester County Food Bank, volunteer opportunities at the Center and in the community.
