This was our second rescue thru Double Dog and as with the first, they were the perfect organization to unite a homeless dog with a family. They are organized, communicate in an efficient and timely manner and exude compassion. We have recommended them to other families and a couple of them who utilized DDR had the same great experience.

In May 2016 my lovely Walker Coon Hound went to the rainbow bridge. I was devastated by the the loss of my sweet Gracie. I truly believe in adopting animals whether they’re cats or dogs.
I love the companionship & unconditional love a dog gives to my family. Double Dog Rescue came to my rescue when I found Blue (formerly Rex) online. The entire adoption process was easy & affordable. I picked up Blue who was 3 at the time in Connecticut. It’s been a match made in heaven.
I can’t say enough good things about the personnel I dealt with at Double Dog. They’re unselfish devotion to the care & well being of abused, abandoned dogs is amazing.
Here’s a picture of my handsome boy. We’ve had him for a year he’s now 4 years old.

We adopted from the rescue a little while ago. DDR themselves were not honest with us and seemed only interested in making money off of their dogs. They lied about their dogs' temperament on petfinder and did not take any time to ensure the applicants would be a good fit. Contacts were not called and home visits did not occur. The foster parents that we met all seemed to be very nice and honest.

I volunteered to foster a dog in need. They asked if we could take a puppy named Jasper from TN. Ummm, YES! We arranged to pick up Jasper near our home. He was with us for about 3 weeks and we decided he was meant to be ours. That's what is called a "foster failure". He has been part of our family for 10 years. We ended up fostering and finding forever homes for about 13 more dogs with DDR. I helped put more dogs online through Petfinder and Adopt-a-Pet to help them find their forever homes too. Through it all DDR was there if we had questions or concerns. Thank you DDR for finding us our sweet boy -

We lost one of our two older dogs in 2012 and we knew that it would not be easy to find a dog that our old female dog would accept into 'her' home. We filled out applications with several rescue organizations and were looking at quite a few different dogs, when we got an email from the DDR screener telling us she thought she had found the right dog for us. Well, she did! Leo joined our family - with approval from our female - and we never regretted the decision to adopt this dog. DDR is a wonderful organization with exceptional volunteers, and they do everything in their power to match their dogs with the right families. They stand behind their dogs, they will disclose any issues a dog may have - health or temperament wise, to the best of their knowledge - and they work with prospective adopters to make sure that their dogs find a family that is a good match. They follow up with adopters, and are always willing to help if problems happen to creep up. If for some reason things do not work out they will always take the dog back. In fact, they insist that adopters return their dog if they find that they cannot keep it. DDR dogs are DDR dogs for life.
Unfortunately, both of our old dogs have passed on but we were lucky enough to be able to adopt two more dogs from DDR since.
Knowing how important it is to have foster homes for rescue dogs we have since started to volunteer, and have fostered several dogs for DDR.

I adopted my cattle dog, Emme Blaze, from Double Dog Rescue in Oct of 2007.
I had lost my beloved cattle dog, Dixie in June of 2017....it was devastating for us! We had lost our son to a terrible accident in 2006 then losing our Dixie was just overwhelming. I couldn’t bear another loss so we spent that summer alone ....no pets.
By Sept I realized we desperately needed a dog again to help us get thru.
I found Emme on Petfinder and contacted Chey from DDR. That was the beginning of a wonderful relationship for me!
Chey was marvelous to work with ! So kind and understanding of our situation. But she was careful to be sure I understood the herding dog breed too. Chey wanted to be sure we would have the perfect dog for us .After our phone conversation, getting to know each other a bit, arrangements were made for me to meet my Emme !
It was love at first sight ❤️ However she wasn’t fond of men so it took a few weeks for her to warm up to my husband ! Now they adore each other !
Emme Blaze is our sweetheart....the most loving , happy dog you could ever meet. I’ve kept in touch with Chey over the last ten years ....updating her on Emme Blaze. Attending events whenever I can & sending others to check out the dogs Double Dog has for adoption. All of the fosters, screeners & directors are amazing!
You’ll never find a better rescue when you’re searching for your newest family member !

I am forever grateful to Double Dog! All 3 of my babies are from Double Dog. Everyone who you come in contact with is very polite, patient, and most importantly has the dogs best interest in mind when it comes to finding their forever home. I have nothing but great things to say about Double Dog!

Will admit a personal relationship (through my wife) to someone who works for Double Dog. But that doesn't change how much (independent from that) I think they do a wonderful job in helping dogs get to their forever homes.

We adopted what was my first dog from them back in Feb. of 2015 after the flurry that follows when your wife says "hey, isn't this dog cute?" from her Facebook feed. Fast forward a few days later and we met our dog face-to-face and saw how he would take some time to warm up to us. That was exceptionally true and it took about 6 months or more to take him from skittish and clearly previously abused to even let me approach him to pet him.

Anyways, standard process with adoption with fees, etc. but hearing the massive amounts of positive energy, effort, and money that they put to getting these dogs up to New England safely, comfortably, and as happy as can be really showed clearly. We got all of the details on the dogs' history we needed to set up a new vet, get city approvals on tags, etc.

It was a great process they do great things, they provide loving dogs, and then also, they continue to need more support. And now he just loves us, has started to move more strangers (that's a HUGE win) and they continue to do great things. Can't say much more!

When we lost our beloved black lab to cancer, we were going to be on "the non-replacement program" and not get another dog. It hurt too much to say goodbye to our beloved pets. Well that lasted about a minute and a half. We found our beautiful Amber through this amazing rescue group who are dedicated and tireless advocates for the dogs who cannot speak for themselves. Truly devoted beautiful souls volunteer with Double Dog Rescue and spend countless hours helping these dogs good the "perfect Furever home"! We actually now have 2 babies from Double Dog. And we will continue to rescue and continue to work with this amazing group!!!!!

I can't say enough good things about double dog rescue! Two of our three dogs were adopted through DDR. The entire process from start to finish was smooth and easy. Fantastic communication throughout the adoption process and got all of my questions answered. I felt supported after adoption with check-ins from the rescue. The volunteers seem to love and care about their dogs immensely, and work hard to place them in the best forever homes.
Because of our great adoption experience, my family decided to become volunteers with double dog rescue. Volunteering with the organization has been equally as rewarding --- working with a talented, committed, organized and accountable group who work perilously day in and day out to help homeless animals find their forever homes. DDR is an amazing organization from all sides.

Double Dog Rescue is an amazing group of dedicated rescuers! It is not an easy task to coordinate the rescue of animals on death row, or in bad situations, but day after day the volunteers continue to get it done. Volunteers....no one is ever paid for their 7 day work weeks, and sleepless nights. That is key to me, and why I not only have adopted, but fostered dogs & volunteered with this wonderful group. All of the money donated goes right to the dogs. Dogs are not only adopted, but the families are also educated on how to have a successful relationship with their new family member. What more could you ask for?

Terrible experience with this rescue group. We rescued our former dog, Hamilton through Double Dog Rescue. They told us he was a Retriever/Mastiff mix and that he was good with people, kids, other dogs. Now I realize that a rescue dogs temperament doesn't typically show until they get comfortable in their new environment. But after about 2 months Hamilton began showing signs of aggression towards people entering the house and towards men in and outside of the home. We had a trainer come in to evaluate him and help us associate good things with people. We worked on this every, single, day. We had our friends and family come over, toss treats, no eye contact, etc. but he ended up gaining more confidence and began lunging at new people coming into the house. Thankfully we don't have children or we would have had to surrender him earlier than we did. We finally came to the realization that we were not the right fit for Hamilton and he wasn't the right fit for us. I made sure to tell Chey and Kathy the reason for the surrender and suggested Hamilton be in a home with an experienced, older owner, that doesn't have many visitors and specially no children. This all happened about 3 weeks ago. Today, I received a phone call from Hamilton's new owner, August, which I don't know why Double Dog Rescue would disclose my information to a stranger. Him and his wife have 4 children, two that are high school aged and two that are 10/11. He began to tell me that Hamilton has been aggressively barking/lunging at his children's friends when they enter the home. He asked if we experienced this and what he should do. I told him the reason why we surrendered Hamilton was because of these behavioral issues and that I specifically told the rescue he needs an owner familiar with his breed and/or behavior issues and that he cannot be in a home with children. They not only disregarded my suggestions but gave my information out and set Hamilton up for failure yet again. The gentleman also stated that his vet wants to speak with me as well. So I have a the new owner of my former dog calling me, who was very nice might I add and I told him I want to help him in any way possible, but also his vet calling me. I just don't understand how a rescue can get away with working as an assembly line and placing these dogs into homes where they don't do home checks or really do their due diligence to find the best situation for these dogs since most of these dogs already had a rough start. I'm going to keep posting any where I can to make sure this doesn't keep happening to not only the dog but also for people interested in working with this rescue group because I'm sure they're not the only rescue group out there that does this. We loved Hamilton and surrendered him in hopes of him having a successful life where he was able to thrive and that wasn't the case.

I adopted a dog, and it turned out he had some dental problems that resulted in expensive tooth surgery. DDR did everything they could to help with the cost, and were in constant communication with me throughout the process.

As a member of the Double Dog Rescue (DDR) Executive Committee (and advisor to the DDR Board of Directors) I want to post a message that affirms the statement made on this website relating to the relationship (or more precisely 'lack of relationship') between DDR and Dog Gone Recovery (DGR), a completely separate organization.

I am not familiar with the management of DGR and so I cannot (nor would) comment on the integrity of the organization. I do not know whether they are a sanctioned bona fide charitable organization per IRC Sec 501(c)(3) or any comparable State registration body.

What is clear is that DGR is completely unrelated to DDR.

Please refrain from making any comments about DGR (positive or negative) on the DDR pages.

Thank you !!!

Dog Gone Recovery (DGR) states they area non profit under DDR. First off Dog Gone Recovery is not a non profit even though they make false claims that they are. I used to be in this group until I saw first hand what they do and how they behave and how they treat people. This group claims to be experts in finding lost dogs, that couldn't be further from the truth. The truth is they do NOT know what they are doing, they create Facebook group pages and that's pretty much it. When they do actually attempt to do something it takes them days or weeks to coordinate the most simple task. They immediately demand the owners of lost dogs hire a specific pet tracker who has a horrible recovery rate and bad reputation, when questioned about this they verbally attack people or ban them from the FB pages. They are bullies and over bearing, they are a bunch of old retired women who who should take up knitting as a hobby, not finding lost dogs.

A fb group called Dog Gone Recovery claims to be a non-profit under Double Dog Rescue's name and liability insurance. Dog Gone Recovery is not listed anywhere as a company, business or non-profit. A BOD member who serves as facebook admin for Dog Gone Recovery has publicly stated this claim. Person is also on the BOD of Double Dog Rescue and another charity called Dog Star Rescue. This individual has claimed that Dog Gone Recovery will now be a part of Dog Star Rescue a new non profit group in CT.

Donators and volunteers should check to be sure all paper work on Double Dog Rescue, Dog Gone Recovery and Dog Star Dog Rescue is verified before you donate to any of these groups. Dog Gone Recovery raises funds via a PayPal account to pay for a for fee pet tracking service and for supplies such as camera and other material. It is not known who this account is owned by and where the funds are going.

IF Double Dog and Dog Star ARE NOT affliated with Dog Gone Recovery, then they need to publicly deny any affliation. The appearance is that Dog Gone Recovery is NOT a registered non-profit because IF they are, they have ignored all written requests for proof of filing status.

We just adopted a dog who was fostered by a volunteer. All good, our newly adopted family member is enjoying her new home. The $450 fee we paid Double Dog seemed reasonable given the amount of effort it takes to transport the dogs from the southern US and take care of them before finding foster or permeate homes.
I felt Double Dog had a great deal of credibility because in their adoption contract, they ask to be the first party to take the dog back should the adoption not workout. This showed me they really care about the dogs and ensuring they find good homes.
