Mission: Mission of donate life texas, inc. Is to save lives by ensuring that no medically-viable anatomical gift is lost due to lack of consent. The donate life texas donor registry empowers individuals to record legally-binding consent to post-mortem organ, eye and tissue donation for the purposes of transplantation, education or research.
Programs: Donate life is responsible for the management, security, and routine maintenance of the registry website / database hosting. The registry website and database search access is available 24/7/365 as required by texas state health and safety code. Educational brochures and materials are required by the texas state transportation code to promote timely awareness and understanding of organ, eye and tissue donor registration at the texas driver license offices. In 2014, donate life purchased and distributed these materials to texas driver license offices throughout the state. The code also requires all driver license and id applicants to be asked about joining the donor registry and, as a result, 98% of all new donor registrations came from the driver license and id application process in 2014. As the host state, donate life texas sponsored the donate life transplant games of america hosted in houston, texas in 2014. This sponsorship was designed to leverage public awareness of organ, eye and tissue donation and registration through media coverage, sponsorship benefits and localized advocacy activities. As of december 31, 2014, 1,405,888 people were added to the donate life texas organ, eye and tissue donor registry, bringing the total number of registrants to 6,974,107 and making it the third largest donor registry in the united states. In 2014, the donate life texas registry provided consent for 226 organ donors (31% of state total), 618 eye donors (29% of state total) and 710 tissue donors (31% of state total. )
during 2013 and for the first 9 months of 2014, an independent contractor managed the operations of donate life. Donate life reimbursed an organization for the benefits and salary of an employee serving as donate life's executive director, beginning in september 2014. Management responsibilities include the development and implementation of all donate life's educational programs and ensuring donate life's donor registry remains in compliance with state laws and regulations.
Full Circle-My Giving Story: My giving story stems from coming full circle when it comes to organ donation. I support Donate Life Texas/LifeGift of West Texas because they were my first connection to organ donation. Our daughter became a donor hero 13 years ago. We said yes to organ donation - not knowing my husband would one day himself need a transplant. He was blessed with a new liver on 4/19/14. During his wait we were able to meet our daughter's liver recipient and even participated in her wedding this summer.
My volunteer efforts and monetary contributions could never match what Donate Life Texas/LifeGift has given to me and my family. We have truly come full circle with organ donation.
