I can not say enough to express just how wonderful the people at Dogwood Animal Rescue Project are. They work tirelessly to protect care for, love and find homes for animals in desperate need. I specifically worked with Charolette, Karen, and Beth who were so giving of their time and resources to help a cat, Peaches who was left in the streets and when I came upon her was rail thin, weak, cold & afraid. I do not know the others, the volunteers who also work tirelessly to keep this rescue going, but I would like to thank them as well. Dogwood Animal Rescue Project is a godsend. The world is a better place because of this non-profit. Animals whom would otherwise be left for dead, abused, neglected, unloved have a chance at living a life they so richly deserve!
Dogwood Animal Rescue Project (DARP) exemplifies the best of humanity.
Think back to the time when you felt most vulnerable, without hope and alone. Many of the puppies, kittens, dogs and cats come to Dogwood after experiencing abandonment, neglect or abuse. They may have given up on life, and their lost eyes break your heart. Little do they know how much better life can get.
Animals are brought in from natural disasters, such as the horrific Tubbs Fire, flooding in Guerneville, are found abandoned in remote areas or come to Dogwood from pleading shelter employees and volunteers who recognize when an animal is not coping in a shelter environment.
Dogwood's founder, Shirley Zindler, the DARP board of directors, and over 200 volunteers bring hope, health and joy back into these animals' lives.
Dogwood takes on difficult medical cases, through Gus's Legacy of Love, and these are often flown into Santa Rosa with the assistance of volunteer pilots.
DARP also, quietly and efficiently, is helping to provide low to no cost spay and neuter services to the desperately under served Central Valley.
You can follow their facebook page, and see the animal's transformation from scared and hopeless, to wiggly butt, bitey face, "can"t hold their licker", truly joyful dog.
I’m not sure I have the words to express my elation that Dogwood exists. Passionate, smart, loving, compassionate, respectful and caring are just a few of the words that bubble up when asked about Dogwood. The easiest way is to tell you all that my 2 loves are Dogwood rescues. This community of volunteers rock my world.
