I (heart) Discovery Greens!
Discovery Green has been a wonderful asset to Downtown Houston! We have needed something like this for a very long time. All the *free* activities that the park has to offer is awesome for us(people on budgets) to enjoy! This environmentally friendly park has something to offer to for everyone, especially those who have a special place in their hearts for Houston, arts and well, parks in the city! (Like Central Park in New York City)
My fiance and I have shared many great memories there.

Discovery Green has been a welcome addition to the Houston area. It has provided so many opportunities for activity since it's been in our city. Two years ago, my boyfriend and I went ice skating on New Years Day. It was a special time and a wonderful memory. We have also attended photography and art exhibits in the park. Each time I go, I enjoy my time at Discovery Green!

I am a full time working mom and Discovery Green has so many great activities that I can participate and enjoy as well as my kids. There is always so much security there that makes me feel safe when at Discovery Green with my kids. I love that I can participate in activities for me to enjoy as well as my kids can. Working mom's like me with kids always need something that we can enjoy and do after work all together. Thank you Discovery Green members/workers for making this a great place for families.
I volunteered for the opening, and hve been hooked on Houston's great park ever since! I attend the movies, concerts and special events. It is SO easy to access, and they do a great job of getting the word out of all of their activities. Love it!

My husband and I both feel that Discovery Green is a wonderful asset to Houston. We enjoy the old silent films, the farmer's market, and just people watching ....especially all the young families who bring their kids and dogs to relax and enjoy a bit of lovely open space. We have also brought many out-of-town guests to Discovery Green to universal applause and appreciation.

I took my son (in from college in Missouri), his girlfriend and my daughter to see the Red Bull Illume in December. What an awesome enlightening presentation for all ages and all backgrounds! Amazing photographs lit up at night time. I wish I could have brought everyone to see it! I must tell you we drove in from Sugar Land (30 miles) and it was freezing cold outside, but the Illumination warmed all of us , mind, body and soul! Great job and please keep bringing this type of art back to the Great City of Houston!

I have been attending the park's Zumba classes for over a year now and I absolutely love the class and the park. I have also enjoyed watching my 3-year old nephew run around in the water park and playground and hope that the park will be around for many, many years to come, as I am looking forward to all the fun things I can do with my now 6-month old, once she gets a bit older.

I absolutely love the Blues and Burgers series that they have at Discovery Green. Not only does it give the public a chance to hear some great musicians perform, it also lets those of us stuck in an office all day enjoy a beautiful getaway from work. The Lake House is a relaxing setting and has great burgers, and a nice walk through the surrounding park is a great way to top it all off.

We love Discovery Green. My grand baby loves the fountains. We feel it is a little piece of heaven, well planned and well maintained. My husband and I love the restaurant too. We hope to enjoy more of the programming in the future even though we live in Clear Lake. Houston is a great place.

Discovery Green is an amazing park! When you are in the beautiful setting of the park you almost forget that you are in the middle of a big city. This park has really helped to bring the community together. They have great events yearly, a lot are free. Live music, festivals, art exhibits, movies in the park and more. It's a very family and pet friendly place. The play area and water features are great, especially during summer in Houston. The park construction is inspiration to all. They have done a wonderful job making this park eco friendly!

Discovery Green has fantastic facilities - the play park is top, as are the water fountain for kids, the nature zones and pond, the stage area. My family have enjoyed concerts and films for free in the happiest of settings, And to think it is all for free!

My family was enchanted walking under the huge pictorial globes at Christmas and where breathtaken by the large glowing photo exhibit of extreme sports. Thanks to the friendly and curteous staff that look to make our play time on the grassy areas fun and offering equipment for outdoor games. Discovery green is a breath of fresh air for us and a place to meet our friends. I wish we had more bike lanes leading to this lovely spot.
Review from Guidestar
My grandchildren and I love the park and facility. All activities are free. some are educational and some are just for fun. We get our exercise for the day and meet people from all cultures. I get e-mails through internet for upcoming events and forward the mail to my friends. There are always planned events for people of all ages.

We recently moved here from New Jersey (just outside of Manhattan). My husband and I have two children, ages 11 and 7, a puppy, and my 80-year-old dad (a true New Yorker) now calling Houston home. Recently, we went to Discovery Green because we heard about the ice sculpting contest. We enjoyed the beautiful weather and event and felt almost guilty because as we watched the artists doing their thing with the ice, on a gorgeous Winter day here in Houston, our family and friends were digging themselves out of ice and snow as New York City faced its worst Winter on record! Thank you, Discovery Green Conservancy, for the wonderful events you host and for adding such color to Houston!

In Discovery Green Park most of happenings are outdoor, which challenges the old good myth that Houston is indoor city. DG not only changes the city but also keeps changing Houstonians, taking them out of their houses, and making them to do fun and active things outside: listen live music, practice yoga, watch art shows.
Kids adore DG for playing fountains, playground, skating rink and juicy burgers from Lakeside cafe
Review from Guidestar
Love the free plays performed in the summer months. My friends and I spent the afternoon watching Shakespeare and enjoy some cold drinks. When we needed a break from the sun, we were able to enjoy the active side of the park with frisbee's and sno-cones in the shade of some trees.
The fountain was a real treat. It's both beautiful to look at is and refreshing. It was hard not to smile with the children that were happily playing in the water.
The outdoor ice rink, recycle saturdays, farmer's market, and more, I'm always talking about going there with friends and out of towner's. I live about 30 min from downtown, but think the drive is totally worth it!

We love the Discovery Green park. It is a great place to take the dog and relax in the park. We live close to downtown and think it is great to have the park close to us. We also really like all the activites they offer at the park, especially since they are all FREE!

It's just so wonderful to have a green space in the middle of a big city that provides so many excellent activities. Blues and burgers, concerts, movies, ice skating, art bikes, and so many other activities that discovery green provides have really enriched Houston.

As a professional choreographer and a mother, I have found Discovery Green to be am irreplaceable and valuable resource to introduce both my son to the arts and my art to the Houston public. Discovery Green gives so many people a new experience to the arts - people who may not see it otherwise!

I love, love, love Discovery Green Park. This is a wonderful sense of community there and people seem to come together for the sole purpose of enjoying the wide array of festivities the park offers. The park is so welcoming and caters to all sorts of people, I enjoy the ever changing variety the park offer, from movie nights, to exercising in the park, to walks for a cause. The grounds are always clean and well tended to and the level of security that is provided makes you feel safe and secure. Discovery green is definitely a plus to the Houston Community as a whole.

Just what Houston needed! Discovery Green offers such a wide variety of programs and events that everyone benefits. Our family greatly enjoys the art displays and was very impressed with the Red Bull Illume Exhibit. I also take advantage of Recycle Saturdays.

Discovery Green is a wonderful, diverse park. It is hard to explain, but I got an amazing sense of community there, more than any park I have ever visited. I love the Sunday Farmer's Market and hope that it keeps expanding. I went for a free salsa lesson and stayed for the free movie afterwards. It was fun! The water park is great for the kids to get wet and for the adults to watch. I like watching the dogs in the dog park and the kids in the playground. I signed up for weekly notifications from Discovery Green and they e-mail me and tell me what's going on that week.

Discovery Green is my favorite park in Houston! After visiting Discovery Green for the first time, I went and started telling people how much I love it! You can enjoy the park without bumping into anyone. The Urban Market on Sundays is a treat. After shopping the market, you can relax on the hill or on the flat lawn... There is something for everyone to do. The greatest reason why I fell in love with this park is that it is an "organic" park and I am all for natural and organic living! Whenever I think about going to a park, I always think of Discovery Green first....

Discovery Green is a wonderful gem in the middle of downtown Houston. Likely the most programmed plot of land in the city, Discovery Green hosts everything from wonderful exercise classes that draw residents of all ages, races and fitness levels; to silent movie nights, concerts and exhibits. And most of it is absolutely free! I personally discovered Zumba and Yoga at the park, and have attended countless free concerts and movies there. And when I just want a nice, quiet place to read or throw a Frisbee, Disovery Green is perfect for that too. It is one of my absolute favorite spots in the city, and it serves such a diverse mix of people.

One of the best urban parks in the country, there are free activities every day and is a showcase of the entire city.

Discovery Green is a wonderful park offering a wide variety of free activities of interest both to families and children and to adults. The DIVERSITY of events taking place there is amazing. Many 'green' activities include a local fresh food market, recycling Saturdays, the annual "take me outdoors" activities with booths from Texas Parks & Wildlife, Sierra Club, Houston Arboretum, etc. Many artistic displays include the recent photo exhibits, a Dan Phillips gazebo, ice carving, etc. The health related activities include exercise classes, ice skating, and more. Then there are the free music and films. There are the spraying water in summer, ice skating in winter and other children's acivities. We recently found out that they have hoola hoops & frisbies just to lend to visitors on the honor system. Discovery Green seems to offer something for everyone regardless of his/her interests.
The Houston Park & Recreation Department does a wonderful job landscaping the park. Especially noteworthy are the large number of native plants used in the park.

Discovery Green is on my Top Five Favorite things in Houston! It is a great place to make memories with my family. I love having picnics, and it is such an awesome place for flying kites. I love that they are pet friendly, it has so many spots to just relax and read a book. I met my teenage crush thanks to them, Mario Lopez at a book signing, an it didnt seem so chaotic because it was outdoors. Taking a walk at night it so romantic. with the lake and scenery...just an all around enjoyable place to go!! Can't wait to see what they introduce next.

A great place to go for all different people; families, couples, youngsters, elderlies, etc. Couldn't have stayed in Houston without it. In the summer (when most Houstonians stay in their AC homes), it was very breezy and I went to Discovery Green 2-3 times a week. Enjoyed yoga in the outdoors ( I never did yoga before), remote control little sailing boats, fountains, events, simple outdoor games (Bocce, frisbee, horseshoe, etc) that one can borrow for free, library, outdoor ice skating, etc.
It is THE highlight of Houston.

This organization opened the park a few years ago, and they consistently have fun, family-friendly programming throughout the entire year. It has brought new life to the downtown Houston area, and provides community support to local organizations as well as entertainment to the general public. I love going to Discovery Green for the outdoor concerts, movies on the big screen and even the events surrounding the MLS all-star game last July. It's great to see so many people of all ages and walks of life re-discovering downtown Houston.

Truly a GEM in Downtown Houston. Not only is Discovery Green esthetically pleasing and a nice place to spend time winding down in the midst of a concrete jungle; it offers great programs/events/facilities targeted at a broad, diverse population.
As someone new to Houston, I think Discovery Green (complete with its free programs/events for the public) is strategically located as a great marketing tool for Houston - demonstrating that the city and its people are progressive, healthy and family oriented.
I particularly like the fitness in the park programs (especially Zumba classes), the Saturday recyling centre, the concerts in the park series and the various weekend events through out the year.
Discovery Green was a factor in my deciding to live downtown.

Discovery Green is a great park to go to. They have year round activities that aren't replicated elsewhere.

This is the most dynamic park in Houston. When we are there, we almost feel like we are not in Houston (not that Houston isn't beautiful everywhere :-)). The activities and exhibits change throughout the year so there is always something a little different to do. You can bring a lunch or eat at the cafe that is there. It is easy to spend hours there with or without the kids.
If you haven't been to this park, you must go!

Discovery Green helps me build memories with my family in so many ways! My kids love to check on the open air exhibits, we participate on movie nights, concerts and special occasion performances. They love the water park and the playground. I always take visitors from out-of-town to stroll on the park and I am so proud to tell about the transplanted trees and all the green initiatives going on there! My friends and I also enjoy going for lunch and enjoying some jazz during week days.

Disovery Green is rapidly becoming an outdoor community activity hub for all of Houston. Located among the skyscrapers of Houston, this park includes a performance stage, a reflecting pond, small restaurant and coffee bar, dancing fountains for children too play in, and expansive green space. It has proven to bring people from all walks of life and cultures together for many reasons ranging from entertainment to education to physical fitness.

I am grateful for such a place as Discovery Green because of the opportunity to have a safe place for my kid's and I to go and enjoy ourselves with all of the various activities scheduled.

I really enjoy Discovery Green Park. I think the Consrvancy does a great job putting on a variety of different show, events, classes and entertainment. They try to offer something for everyone, kids, youth, young adults, families and seniors. I have been there for outdoor movie nights, hot air ballon rides, premier photo exbihits, live bands and dance classes to name a few. I can bring my dog, my chair and sit outside and just watch people, watch the kids play or enjoy the sponsored events.
They have a great internet site, and a weekly email newsletter listing their calendar of events which I find very useful in planning my visits. Plus they will send out special email blast for special one time events. I think they really try to get the word out to the public about the park and it's offerings.
I drive about 15 miles to attend their events and wish I lived closer to take advantage of more of their offerings, like their weekly classes. Plus they even offer a farmer's market and recycling to show their support for the environment.
The park is currently well maintained and kept cleaned. I do not know what their budget is but with all the cut backs in the City of Houston, I am worry that they might not be able to maintain the activities and upkeep of the park. I am hoping this will not be the case.

Discovery Green is a great place to take the family, a friend, or even a date. Regarless of your age, there is always something new and exciting you can enjoy at no charge. I regulary attend their free outdoor movies and cultural/arts exhibits. The park is also great at partnering with other not-for-profit organizations in order to bring awarness of their initiatives to the general public. I would consider Discovery Green a Houston MUST VISIT location.

Outstanding community resource for the Houston area. We are new to the area and have already attended several exceptional events at Discovery Green, with a commute of 45 minutes each way. It is worth it. It is a spacious, clean, safe and welcoming area for all kinds of activities. Korean Festival, Gloworama, and the Art Car Parade to name a few. It provides a wonderful meeting ground for a diverse, eclectic constituency. It is part of a citywide effort to provide for an enhanced, enriched living quality that ensures the cities reputation now and for it's long term future. The programing is ell done with a knowledgable eye to involving the broadest participation. Thanks to all involved

Our family loves Discovery Green. They have lots of free performances, music, theater, movies, and more. When it is warm the kids love to use the splash park, eat, and then watch a show.
Our oldest daughter has learned a lot at the free classes, martial arts and writer's workshop.

I LOVE this urban park. It is 2 blocks from my son's law office. During the summer when my out of state grandchildren are visiting we spend at least one day a week at Discovery Green and Uncle Kelly comes over to have lunch with us. During the fall and spring I take my 85 year old mother-in-law to Discovery Green to share a picnic and watch the children play. Although we live over 30 miles away, in the suburbs, I'm still a fan and tell everyone who will listen about it. I applaud the forsight of civic leaders in developing this land as a park with an underground parking garage instead of just another ugly surface parking garage.

I have attended numerous free events at the park. They are great for families and individuals alike. The park definitely helps bring people to a downtown area that needs it to continue its revitalization. They have a number of services that are good for the body and mind that are free and otherwise wouldn't be accessible to some lesser-privileged Houstonians. It is a lovely space and a great addition to our community.

I would like to give my word of support to this great organization. I am a performing artist and composer. A few years back I participated in one of the big concert events at the Green. There were many interesting musicians and the event was really unique and fun. After this I decided to approach Discovery Green staff with the idea of doing an original children's show. I managed to get them to listen to my music and they responded right away. They offered to put my "Brother Tadpole"on saturday at noon, their children's program. I worked hard on this, and this event was great success. Children on stage and in the audience loved it, local personalities and artists participated on stage, the sound man was fantastic, it was unforgettable. Discovery Green even provided some funding from Wells Fargo Bank. This is a great organization because it was helpful and open minded to a new project. it is essential component of the Houston arts and education for children. This organization is one of the best ones I have ever worked with. Sincerely, Dr. Loreta Kovacic, alchemistpiano.com

Discovery Green always hosts family oriented events for people of all ages. I really enjoy the variety of events they have hosted, including outdoor movies, yoga, zumba and other group excercise classes and special events such as a dog competition.
In a time when people are tight on money, it's nice to be able to participate in exercise classes that would otherwise cost $12 plus / class. They encourage fitness in the community by making it accessible to people of all ages, and making it fun.
Discovery Green also encourages a green lifestyle by encouraging recycling, and accepting recyclables on weekends.
This park is unique in that it hosts music and art events on a regular basis. With a lot of educational institutes dropping many music or arts programs from their curriculum due to costs, it is nice that Discovery Green steps up to the plate with a multitude of art displays, concerts and screenings of different movies and films.
They are a great asset to the Houston community, and deserve any and all awards given to them.

At first, I thought the idea of Discovery Green was ludicrous. Who would want to come all the way downtown to go to a big park? Boy, was I wrong.
Not only have my family and I thoroughly enjoyed all kinds of different events and activities at Discovery Green including concerts, movie screenings, the playground and water sprays, and touring attractions, it has actually been the "go to" place we take out of town guests now to show off Houston. I also work for a company that runs conventions across the street at the George R. Brown, and visitors from all over the world have commented to me about how wonderful Discovery Green is.
And the fact that so many of the park's events are free has been greatly appreciated. Discovery Green is an incredible boon for our city, and I look forward to going there for many years to come.

Discovery Green is a beautiful park in the heart of downtown Houston. It offers a pond for boat racing, 2 separate water features for the children and a great play-ground area. It also has 2 Cafe's offering quality food, different gardens to explore, a concert area and a general open area for families to gather and play games - Discovery Green offers free outdoor games to families on the weekends so you don't have to lug all of your equipment - frisbies, balls to throw...you name it, they probably have it. During the week they offer various outdoor exercise activities and on the weekends a farmers market and many activities for children. My family has enjoyed the park numerous times for picnics, water play, free "movies on the green" on the weekends and various family productions. My son loves to go to Discovery Green in the winter to enjoy the outdoor ice skating rink - it's fabulous! Where else in Houston can you enjoy an outdoor ice skating rink?!?!?! The best part of Discovery Green is that it is Eco Friendly. We LOVE Discovery Green and feel that it is a great asset to Downtown Houston and to our family!!
