My daughter was given the opportunity to travel abroad this past summer to South Korea through DiscoverU. While this could have been a nerve wracking experience for me as a parent and for her as a student being away from home , Discover U’s communication, professionalism and organization made this an exciting experience for us BOTH! We are so thankful this nonprofit provided my scholar with a FULL scholarship to learn and create lifelong memories with new friends. We are forever grateful!

It was a pleasure and an honor to serve as a member of the Board of Directors of DiscoverU for the past few years. The entire staff is an amazingly talented and passionate group of people, who are truly dedicated to improving access to high-quality, out-of-school learning experiences for ALL of their students. Whether you are a student, a parent, a school principal, or a potential sponsor, rest assured that you're in the best of hands with DiscoverU!

DiscoverU is an amazing organization that has remained grounded in and committed to students' and families' needs for experiential learning, even while expanding its operation across the greater Houston area. With a growing staff, DiscoverU provides highly-personalized application support and advocacy for deserving young people to participate in "Fantastic Learning Opportunities." Having been heavily involved with the organization in its founding years, I was always unsure of whether or not that highly personalized quality would diminish as the organization worked with more students. But, it hasn't! There's still so much effort that goes into ensuring that every "FLOster" has the support, confidence, and practical resources they need to experience the world around them.

When I was an administrator as a high school in HISD, I was introduced to the team at Discover U. This organization partners students with learning opportunities locally and globally based on student interest. Discover U takes experiential learning to a whole new level. Students are allowed to see themselves as doctors, explorers, college students, pilots, and international travelers. Watching new worlds and paths open for students is exciting and impactful. I thank them for taking learning beyond the walls of a classroom.

DiscoverU is such a wonderful organization with an authenticity I've never seen the likes of. They work to serve marginalized students with financial need to expand their horizons in education. Their website offers hundreds of summer learning opportunities with a robust interface and essential details to help you decide which ones to apply for.

I'm part of the EMERGE Fellowship, a college-prep program based in Houston for high-achieving low-income students, and their partnership with us has been phenomenal. 4 of my peers and I were accepted to a pre-college program at Kenyon College, and they paid 100% of our flight tickets to and from Gambier, OH, easing a financial burden we could not afford otherwise.

I'm excited to continue working with for the rest of my educational endeavors. I owe a lot to this organization, and I'm grateful for their generosity in serving young students like myself.
