My husband and I adopted both of our dogs, a full dachshund and a dachshund mix, from Diamond Dachshund Rescue of Texas (DDRTX). I am so impressed with how they stand behind the dogs they have rescued. We first adopted Cinnamon from them in 2009. We thought for sure we would never be able to have a second dog in the house because Vinny, our first dog, was very dog aggressive. After a house visit with one of their volunteers, they explained what Vinny was exhibiting was not dog aggression but was actually fear aggression and that it was quite likely a dog could be located that would fit into our family. So off we went to meet Christine McIntyre (the original person who started DDRTX) as she said she had a couple of dogs to try out with Vinny. She sat down with Vinny after watching him a bit and also felt it was possible to bring another dog into our family. She had brought three dogs with her, one who was extremely submissive, one who was very dominant and one who was a little of both. She had us walk Vinny with each one and determined the best choice would be the one who was a little of both, Cinnamon. We took her home with us and that evening both Vinny and Cinnamon were playing. Another of the reasons I really like this rescue is because they will work with you to find the right fit for the dog and your family. As we all know dachshunds are prone to back problems, about 4 years after we adopted Cinnamon, she developed IVDD. It was a very stressful time and being new at handling a dog with IVDD, we reached out to DDRTX for advice and support. The volunteer we spoke with was very knowledgable with regards to this condition and was able to give us some excellent advice on how to handle IVDD. With their support, Cinnamon went from dragging her hind legs to running, albeit a little wobbly, in 4 months. I believe without their advice and support, we may have returned her to DDRTX. Just another indicator of why this rescue is so wonderful, they are willing to help you even several years after you have adopted from them. Three more years go by and Vinny went to the Rainbow Bridge. Cinnamon was left without her friend. She had always exhibited a little separation anxiety, but after Vinny left, it got really bad. So about 6 months later, we decided to adopt a friend for Cinnamon. Once, again, we met with one of the foster families and introduced Cinnamon to Lady. After walking them, we decided Lady would fit into our family and be a friend to Cinnamon. So we have had Cinnamon and Lady for the last 5 years and they became great buddies. We have had nothing but good experiences in working with this rescue. One other example of their dedication to the dogs that come to their rescue, not my story, one of their adopted dogs, somehow, would up on the East Coast. Due to the fact they chip all the dogs they help and they remain registered on the chip, this lost little pup was rescued a second time, transported back to Texas and reunited with DDRTX. I love their belief, “Once a Diamond Dachshund, always a Diamond Dachshund!”

I’ve followed Diamond Dachshund Rescue of Texas for several years now. I’d stumbled across a live feed that one of their fosters was doing with newborn puppies. I recently had had a litter of my own, and the live feeds helped me so much with my own litter that I had to learn more about these people.
What I found along the way amazed me. Aside from rescuing these dogs from kill shelters, owner surrenders and the streets in general, they truly love each and every animal brought in. In addition they make sure each dog is vetted, vaccinated, spayed/neutered & microchipped before they are adopted. What I found truly amazing, was that if a dog ever needed a place to go in their lifetime after being adopted, they are always welcomed back into their rescue. Not to mention they will help with the meds or any long term care that may be needed.
They do checks on potential adopters to make sure that they are the right fit. Some dogs have special needs & aren’t necessarily the perfect fit for everyone.
These are just a few of the reasons I donate to this rescue.

I have been a Volunteer with Diamond Dachshund since 2016. I adopted my Buddy from a different rescue and my home visit was done by an awesome Diamond Dachshund volunteer.
My first volunteer activity was to transport a foster dog from a veterinary appointment to a foster home. There I saw a sweet little 3 week old puppy named Tiki. To my surprise I adopter her 3 months later. Later I was surprised she looks more like a rat terrier and not a dachshund at all.
Diamond Dachshund is an all volunteer organization that is full of people that love the dachshund breed. I also became a foster and picked up a broken little dog from the local shelter that they were about to put down. She healed and I "foster failed". Now Peanut Diamond and I pay it forward and fund raise for the rescue.
Diamond Dachshund does all it can to ensure that their dogs get the best veterinary care and are placed in a well vetted forever family. It also gives me great peace that if anything happens to me and I can no longer take care of my dogs that Diamond Dachshund would step in and make sure they are well taken care of for the rest of their lives. Once a Diamond Dachshund dog always a Diamond Dachshund dog.

To be quite Frank I wouldn’t adopt from them. My parents who are near 80 but still in good health tried to adopt an 8 yr old dog from these people. They did a zoom interview with the dog, they did a zoom walk thru to check my parents home, told my parents they were approved, and told my parents that the doggie in question would be available on Saturday. My parents were overjoyed they have another dachshund to spend their twilight years with. They drove 3 hrs Saturday morning to get there, and the following happened. They were told the dog wasn’t there like the rescue agency said, couldn’t get the foster to bring the dog in, looked at my parents paperwork and told them they weren’t approved like they were told. So my near 80 yr old mother turned around and drove 3 hrs back home tearing up the whole way. So in conclusion, if your going to vet potential adoption homes like they did, (and I’m more than ok with that) shouldn’t you need to have your own procedures up to par? They were lost, and had no idea what they were doing. Everything they told my parents was wrong. Literally everything. So my advice is stay away from this agency. It’s obvious to me they care little for potential new parents for their dogs, have no idea how to properly run their own facility, and tell people things that aren’t true. It’s a shame too, I’m sure their dogs deserve better than the poorly organized mess my parents and I saw when we were there.
Thanks to Diamond Dachshund Rescue we have three beautiful female dachshunds, Savannah adopted 2014, Abby adopted 2015, and Rita whom we adopted this week! The volunteers and foster parents of this all volunteer organization are amazing. When you read the bio of one of their dogs you can believe every word. They work hard to achieve good matches for both the dogs and their adopters. Thanks to them happy homes have been found for many very deserving dogs.

Diamond Dachshund Rescue of Texas is amazing! I started volunteering with them after I lost my beloved doxie, Dolly. I became a foster home with them and have experienced the joy of families being created. I even adopted my own dear Kismet from them!
I volunteer time doing data input for the org. I've also been blessed to adopt 2 precious dogs from DDRTX over the years. This is a non-profit well worth your consideration...with them, the dogs come 1st! I cannot tell you how rewarding and heart-warming it is to see these little bundles of fur, that would have had a life of misery before DDRTX rescued them, blossom and become all they could be.

I adopted my mini dachshund, Prince, from DDRTX last summer and was very impressed with their dedication to the dogs and making sure each gets a good home. All of my references were checked and a home visit was done. My references were even impressed with the level of questioning they were asked to make sure I was a trustworthy person. I appreciated all the help the volunteer gave when getting my home ready for a dachshund. I loved that they really matched personalities and offered choices, not just pawned off any dog, they made sure we got the right dog. Even after the adoption, the volunteers and foster parents have been wonderful, so much that I seek them out when I attend events, just wanting to thank them for giving my son and I a great addition to our family. My experience was so good, that even my mother wants to adopt from DDRTX now that they have relocated to Texas. Thank you Diamond Dachshund Rescue!!
We adopted our sweet red piebald dachshund, Toffee, from Diamond Dachshund two years ago. We read about this excellent group online. We were very impressed with the volunteer who made a thorough home visit as well as the lady who was fostering her. They both still keep in touch with us. After we "passed" the home visit, we drove five hours to pick Toffee up and welcomed her into our home with her two new piebald doxie brothers. She came from a horrible situation and Diamond Dachshund was right on the mark that she would blossom and become an excellent pet. She is now a real little Queen and we love her. We would love to adopt again from Diamond Dachshund in the future!
We have adopted three wonderful rescue dachshunds from Diamond Dachshund Rescue over the past 7 years. These rescue babies were given wonderful care and rehabilitation which helped them heal up and live happy, fulfilling lives in our home. Our lives have been enriched by the efforts of DDRTX. Their Director Christine worked hand in hand with us to find the best match for us and our home enviroment. Our overall experience was one of being treated with respect, consideration and professionalism. Couldn't be happier. We are now the proud long term foster parents to one of the special needs dachshunds and having so much fun I'd recommend this to everyone.
Diamond Dachshund is the kind of canine adoption agency an animal lover such as myself dreams of!! They care tremendously for each and every Dachshund making sure each dog is placed with the perfect home. We adopted "Sammy" from Diamond in 2008. He has been the perfect addition to our family. We HIGHLY recommend Diamond Dachshund! They're professionalism and care is beyond compare.
Diamond Dachshund was very caring and concerned in my recent adoption of my new doxie, Barkley. They asked thoughtful questions, made me think about several things to help improve on my pet safety. They helped me pick the best little guy for my family - and he is wonderful. I would highly recommend using them to bring in a new family pet.
In 2008, after losing my adopted dachshund, I decided to foster dachshunds for Diamond Dachshund Rescue of Texas. I discovered that this group is full of caring, talented, informed people of all ages working to rehabilitate dachshunds, educate people, and find loving homes for their dogs.
DDRTX has foster homes and volunteers all over Texas and does a home visit, a vet check, and a reference check on all potential adopters and volunteers. If an adopter finds that he can no longer keep the dog, regardless of how long the dog has been with them, DDRTX will take the dog back.
The group’s director, Christine McEntyre, is awesome. She leads her own trained teams to respond to animal emergencies and disasters and won the 2009 Pedigree Westminster Rescue Hero Award for her work with DDRTX and her rescue teams.
What keeps me going in the group is the feeling I get when the right dog and the right family come together. The last time I watched this happen, the dog “washed” the face of the potential adopter with his tongue. When I saw this I knew the dog was home (see photo of the dog). In my opinion, if you’re serious about adopting a dachshund, Diamond Dachshund Rescue of Texas is the place to call.
Great place! A dachshund has it made once it is taken in by this organization. They check your home to insure it is a safe environment, check your references, and with your vet. This was a serious inquiry into my ability to provide a safe, loving home. You must agree to return the dog to them if it does not work out. I believe their standards are as they should be. These people love these creatures. I am thankful to them for rescuing Max and Bratwurst. The fosters put their hearts into getting a dog ready for adoption and just loving them. Bratwurst, who is afraid of men in general loves his foster Dad. The best part of the annual reunion is watching those two when they see each other again. This has happened for 4 years in a row! Not sure which one is happier. I am grateful to the entire organization.
I adopted my little 'girl' three years ago. I was amazed at the detail and concern they had for their adoptable dogs and clients. The fosters who were caring for my girl were available to me by phone for help anytime ( this was my first dog). And their advice was always correct. I also enjoy the annual adopter reunion; a joy to see all the dogs and their new forever family.
We are the proud parents of a little double dapple named Millie. Our experience with Diamond Dachshund Rescue was great, they were very attentive to our needs and have stayed in touch with us for a few years now.We couldn't be happier with the service or the dog. If your looking for a companion DDRTX is the way to go.
I adopted a sweet little boy just over a year ago. I thought the people at DDRTX were very nice and professional. They are a caring group of people who are very dedicated to finding good homes for their dogs. I couldn't have had a more pleasant experience:)
We have adopted several dogs from DDRTX over the years and could not be more pleased. This rescue group has high, but not unreasonable, standards for adopters to ensure that these rescued dogs have forever homes. DDRTX is committed to these dogs for life. DDRTX also often takes in dogs that other rescue groups will not take. DDRTX is a rescue group with integrity that puts the dogs' needs first.
We adopted our dog Kirby about 5 years ago from Diamond Dachshund Rescue. We were very happy with the way we were treated and amazed at what a good job they do to find dachshunds a home. They talked to all our references and our vet. After the adoption we called several times with questions and they were always helpful and informative. We were so impressed with what a wonderful job they do. We would not have wanted it any other way. In the past year we have become a foster home for DDRTX and are just amazed at the good work they do and the dogs they help! Cyndee and Danny Bruen
I have also adopted from this rescue group and everything about them is wonderful. They take the time and effort to make sure every dog goes to the right home. The dogs that are rescued have already been through enough without being placed yet again into another bad situation. This rescue group does everything in its power to ensure that does not happen. Each and every person with this group gives up their time to make the process work. Everyone is a volunteer no one gets paid a dime. The volunteers all care about each dog that is rescued. I now volunteer with the rescue after I adopted because I too love the little furr-babies and want to make sure we can save as many precious lives as possible.
I am blessed to not only be a volunteer with this wonderful group, but I am also an adopter of one of their wonderful dogs. The members of this rescue truly care about the dogs and want only to help ensure they find the best possible homes imaginable. Sometimes, that even means that they never find an adopted home, but rather live their life out safe in rescue. DDRTX makes a lifetime committement to their foster dogs... I've even been part of an interstate, multi-leg "recon" mission when one of the foster dogs was discovered to have been left in a shelter several states away. Yes, the adoption process is thorough and takes a bit of time to complete... but that is because they care so much about a successful placement! DDRTX treats their foster dogs like family... so they make a great family member for you!
I have adopted from Diamond Dachshund twice in the last 7 years. Both times were the most amazing experience ever. I knew that working with rescue groups you need to have a certain level of patience because they are all...after all, volunteers doing this in between raising families, working, and even going to school on top of their rescue activities. I have 2 of the sweetest little babes as a result. They knew which dogs to let me meet. Dogs which fit my personality, my other dogs and my lifestyle. They are always available when I have questions about my dogs. I will definitely go through them again when/if I decide I can't live without another dachshund...I HIGHLY recommend this organization to my friends and people I've never even met!
I had the most horrible experience with these people. I have never felt like crap and there was no remose......I had to put my dog Paris (a double dapple dachshund) to sleep for some complications and was deeply sadden and heart broken. When I finally felt ready for another dachshund thought I would adopt a dog who needed a loving home I goggles and thought this place was perfect but when i explained what had happen annd instead I got asked a million questions and very rude may I add what I could of done different and even though I did everything in my power to save my dog and just wasn't good enough and they had no remose! But netherless to say I found another great place that rescues dachshunds and adoopted a dog who is spoiled as ever
Diamond Dachshund Rescue of Texas is committed to rescuing and rehabilitating dachshunds and finding quality forever homes for them. They check references and do a homevisit on everyone that adopts a dog from their organization. DDRTX strives to maintain high standards in their organization and the care of their dogs.

I adopted my miniature dachshund Bella about a year ago from Diamond Dachshund rescue. From the beginning, I have been extremely impressed with the efforts and hard work of this volunteer-run organization. Christine, the Executive Director, and the volunteers put an endless amount of love and effort into the organization. Bella is the perfect fit for my family and I, and she is the apple of our eyes. She makes everyday better with her dainty little self. Diamond Dachshund is an incredible organization, and I'm proud to be a part of it.
I have been with DDR for over five years and have fostered over 30 dogs and made a difference in their lives. Out Director Christine is a totaly comitted to the best outcome for every dog that comes into DDR
