This is a wonderful nonprofit dedicated to finding a cure for diabetes using cutting edge research that bigger groups overlook. I support this charity because I have two brothers with diabetes and I hope one day that they will be cured. Diabetes Action Research and Education Foundation has a low overhead and over 20 years of focusing on alternative research and education in diabetes treatment, prevention and in finding a cure.

Mission: The Diabetes Action Research and Education Foundation (Diabetes Action), a non-profit 501(c)3 organization founded in 1990, is committed to the prevention and treatment of diabetes and to the funding of innovative, promising research aimed at finding a cure for diabetes and diabetes related complications.
Programs: Diabetes Action has provided grants to over 230 separate research studies at universities and medical institutions across the United States. In addition to funding basic research to cure diabetes with gene therapies and beta cell transplantation, Diabetes Action funds research that examines how nutritional and complementary therapies may prevent and treat diabetes. Diabetes Action emphasizes prevention, with initiatives such as school-based health education programs on American Indian Reservations and free diabetes management booklets. Diabetes Action hosts the annual Diabetes University, a free educational program that highlights complementary, alternative, and nutritional research and treatments for diabetes. The Diabetes Action website offers information about diabetes as well as access to a Diabetes Educator for individual consultation in English or Spanish. Diabetes Action provides scholarships for children to attend special diabetes camps. Since 1990, Diabetes Action has consistently supported programs for American Indians who suffer the highest rate of type 2 diabetes in the world. Diabetes Action has been the only national diabetes organization to help build and equip the only three 100% American Indian owned and operated dialysis clinics in the U.S. Diabetes Action's International Program sends medical supplies to countries where resources are extremely limited.
