Nonprofit Overview
Causes: Centers to Support the Independence of Specific Populations, Human Services
Mission: Dream of detroit is combining community organizing with strategic housing and land development to build a healthy community and empower a marginalized neighborhood on the westside of detroit.
Programs: Welcomed 800 visitors to our first dream of detroit street fair this august, showcasing 40 local businesses, artists, and more. Graduated our third cohort of the prosperus detroit entrepreneur training program, and completed a pilot islamic finance seminar series with ma global investment advisors, llc. Hosted three full-day community organizing trainings with our core leaders and volunteers and trainers from detroit force, east michigan environmental action council, and the inner-city muslim action network. Currently have a steering committee that meets regularly, as well as subcommittees for housing, economic development, and community organizing. To date, six neighborhood homes have been completed in conjunction with our project, with four more currently at various stages of rehabbing. Weve planted 114 trees in the neighborhood, boarded up 30 homes and collected countless dumpsters of garbage and debris.
