This museum continues to provide Denver area visitors with a unique experience by highlighting art and culture, history and handcraft, imagination and play. The scope of services this small place offers to the community is amazing. Hosting tours, workshops for kids and adults beginning levels to advanced, ever changing exhibits, after-hours events, fundraisers, traveling exhibits, an annual, internationally recognized Miniatures show for 35 years, educational programs, community days and cooperation with other non-profits are just a few of the things offered on a small budget with a few people. Using the familiar to connect in such a charming and lovely way with people makes this museum a genuine treasure.
DMMDT has been my charity of choice for over 10 years. I have never been involved with a harder working group of professionals and volunteers. Many of the volunteers have collections of their own and are always at the ready with advice and recommendations to further the hobby, artistry, history and fascination that surrounds the worlds of miniatures, dolls and toys for collectors as well as spectators. The museum evokes an experience similar to going to grandma's house for many. The board of directors is a volunteer, working board whose interests best serve the museum. My average volunteer hours before children of my own ranged from 10-100 hours on any given month. Now we volunteer as a family in addition to my regular duties. I have served as a weekly, monthly, special events, programs and education volunteer. As a board member I have promoted the museum, sought new employees, held fundraisers, encouraged memberships, continued professional training, etc. It sound like a lot-and it is, but it seems standard proof to the type of commitment that DMMDT's dedication from staff, museum members, volunteers and visitors!
