Mission: The mission of the denver film society is to develop opportunities for diverse audiences to discover film through creative, thought-provoking experiences. We strive to cultivate and celebrate film as an art form; to enrich and expand the film-going experience for regional audiences; to provide a showcase for international cinema that would not otherwise be seen in denver; to provide a platform for colorado and u. S. Independent filmmakers; to promote dialogue about film artists and the public; and to provide unique programming for special audiences. The denver film society offers year-round cinematic programming, special events, mini festivals and education programs to its members and the general public, serving more than 200,000 film lovers annually.
Programs: Sie film centerthe denver film society is a membership-based, not for profit film organization serving more than 200,000 community members annually. The film society hosts regular program series, festivals, and other special events, bringing filmgoers and filmmakers together to celebrate the art of film. Year round programs include: cine club-a monthly french film and discussion program; occasional cinema q programs, highlighting the newest films by, for and about the gay, lesbian, transgender and bisexual community; women+film-monthly programs showcasing films by, and about women; culinary cinema programs that meld film and food, the young filmmakers workshop-over a two week period in the summer, students age 12-18 learn to plan, write, shoot, edit and score their own films from leading filmmakers and film experts based in the rocky mountain west. 50% of participants hail from inner-city, denver public schools and 40% receive some form of financial aid to attend.

Also included in other programs is the dfs young filmmakers workshops, developed for teens aged 12-18, the workshops furnish their participants with opportunities to learn the art of cinema, collaborate with other young filmmakers, refine their work with industry professionals and exhibit their films in public premieres.
