I lived in Hunt County and moved to Denton County. I knew I needed to find a support group immediately. I went to Denton County MHMR (DCMHMR) Center hoping to find one. Yes, I did just that. The group was called Road to Recovery. I had found what I was looking for. I continued to go for about a year when I decided to try going back to work (part time). The group was extremely supportive and encouraging. To make a long story short, I found a job working part time at DCMHMR for 1 1/2 years and then became full time after 2 years. As a Peer Specialist I facilitate groups and one on ones serving 30 people in 2019 on a weekly basis. I love my job at DCMHMR! I love the people I work with too. Most importantly, I love the people I serve. I have had jobs that make good money and I was miserable. The job I have as a Peer Specialist doesn't make a lot of money, but it IS the BEST job I have ever had to date because of the people I serve. They give me meaning and purpose each and every day to provide hope, encouragement, confidence, and empowerment in THEIR lives. You can't put a price on that! So, in a nutshell, if you are in need .... don't hesitate to contact DCMHMR and find what you are looking for like I did. Thank you DCMHMR for what you have done in my life, I am truly grateful. ~~~Melanie~~~
