Direct beneficiaries per year: 645 children and 636 caregivers
Geographic areas served: Seattle
Programs: DLEC provides home visiting, pre-school, and early learning programs for low-income, immigrant/refugee, homeless, foster and teen parent families. Services include comprehensive early education, health, disabilities, mental health, and family support. Services are offered to the child and family directly and through community partnerships. DLEC also provides free drop-in play & learn program conducted in English, Spanish, and Chinese to over 200 children and their caregivers at Seattle Public Library locations in the community.
Overall I am sure this organization strives to meet expectations. Please extend this to meeting Covid protocols in order to keep students, staff and their families safe, There needs to be hand sanitizer visible and used at education centers. Creative methods that include positive reinforcement will help get students to wear their masks most of the school day. Staff should wear gloves during meals and toileting. Is it proper to change diapers on a bathroom floor?
The Denise Louie Education Center is an organization that is committed to preparing kids for the future and empowering their families while also preserving home language and culture. The organization serves children ages 0 - 5 and their families through Head Start and Early Head Start programs.
DLEC is also on the cutting edge of testing children throughout the school year to ensure that they are prepared for kindergarten upon graduation. Parents also leave DLEC feeling empowered to advocate for their children as they move into the daunting world of Seattle Public Schools.
