Mission: The memorial's mission is to create awareness and raise funding to construct and operate this community project - a memorial and interactive educational venue to honor the military service of all veterans for their past, present and future sacrifices and educate the public about veterans and u. S. Military history.
Programs: The delaware county veterans memorial (dcvm) serves as an interactive educational venue to honor the military service of all veterans for past, present, and future sacrifices. It educates the public about veterans, united states military history and the founding of our nation. Students who participate in this unique educational program learn about the history of our great nation and its people. During the 2017-2018 school year students from delaware county were introduced to curriculum-based lessons on the history and the founding of our nation, the meaning and history of memorials, the importance of symbolism, and enjoyed one-on-one interaction with veterans, historians, civic leaders, elected officials, business leaders, and military families. The educational field trip and in-school programs appeal to all types of learners and have been well received and praised by teachers, parents, and students alike, and supplement the social studies programs outlined by the school districts. Through this educational endeavor students are introduced to curriculum-based civics and history lessons as designed by the commonwealth of pennsylvania for each grade level. Last year we educated about 4,000 students. Our program has increased by 50% in one year. Every student who visited the memorial participated in a special project. Each student was handed a flag and a copy of the us constitution from a veteran. We are working with several school districts to create a time capsule and we hope to bury it at the memorial site in the near future. We continue to get requests to go beyond delaware county and we are hoping to bring a school out to the veterans memorial from philadelphia school district next year.
