Mission: Assist the city of del mar in enhancing the downtown economic vitality while preserving its history and unique character.
Programs: Dmvas economic development programming facilitates communication and the flow of information between del mars business community, residents, visitors, community organizations, and government agencies. Programming facilitates economic growth and unity in the del mar downtown business and residential community through successful destination promotions and outreach efforts while preserving del mars history and unique character. Programming included, operating the del mar community and visitor center (assisted over 10,000 visitors, distributed over 10,000 brochures) , summer valet parking operation, holiday parking assistance, public art assistance, historic preservation, downtown event calendar, downtown historic points of interest walking tour with interactive plaques, comprehensive del mar village website (reached over 130,000), downtown business directory (include happy hours, happenings and community events) (reached over 130,000), community and business newsletters (sent to over 10,000 subscribers), comprehensive destination marketing, del mar village logo/branding, downtown village map/brochure and directory, pr/tourism outreach, new businesses recruitment, and vacant downtown properties link for commercial property owners. Dmvas programming supported 49 new jobs, 7 new businesses opening.
dmva promotes and enhances the village of del mar, while preserving its history and unique character, by hosting and promoting monthly and annual downtown events. The events include summer solstice, taste of del mar, breeders cup barn at the beach, breast cancer cheer station, small business saturday, and santa by the sea and many smaller events. The total event attendees for this past fiscal year was over 15,000. Dmva worked with over 120 local businesses and hundreds of san diego county contractors and media outlets.
dmvas design programming improves the physical image of del mars main street while preserving its history and unique character, making it an inviting, comfortable, safe and environmentally friendly place to attract residence, investors, businesses in visitors to the downtown. Design projects include, del mar village entrance signs, del mar pedestrian signs and lifeguard station signs (x 9), del mar village banners (x32), del mar village holiday tree, holiday banners (x32), and holiday lights, streetscape improvements and maintenance: downtown benches, bike racks and dual recycling/trash cans, downtown beautification projects, parking improvements: directional signage, dmva fairgrounds and racetrack signage. Dmva programing supported 120 businesses, 4,000+ residents and over 3 million visitors to del mar during 2017. Dmva programing also help stimulate $12,325,000 of public sector improvements and $5,791,000 of private sector improvement projects in del mar.
