Mission: Respond to fire calls
Programs: The defreetsville fire department (dfd) responds to fire, rescue, emergency medical and other calls for service. Dfd emergency medical technicians and certified first responders treat patients. The membership volunteers hours at these alarms, hours at weekly departmental training and additional hours at training outside of weekly drills. Other hours are logged in non-fire or training duty such as fire prevention efforts, parades, station work details and fund raising. In 2016 dfd responded to over 600 emergency calls and provided nearly 10,000 hours of volunteer service to the community. Public relations: dfd paid for the communications related to the town referendum ($6. 5 million bond) to construct a new fire station in defreetsville that was approved by the voters of the north greenbush fire district #1 (ngfd#1). The project is expected to be completed in 2017. The total estimated cost is $6. 9 million. Also offsetting this cost will be the sale of the dfd properties. Other related costs paid by the dfd such as studies and site work have been capitalized and will be consolidated under the ngfd#1 when the project is complete.
