Defenders Of Children

I am a victim of domestic violence and they told me they could not help me because they are already helping my abuser. My abuser has been convicted of domestic violence and I have a 2 year domestic violence protective order against my abuser and they are still representing my abuser for our child custody case. Please think twice about donating to this non profit. They help abusers too. It’s basically whoever reaches them first. Very sad and they definitely need to change their policies where they can’t help abusers.

I neer knew what it meant to be a child advocate or to help abused children, or that there were really abused children that I could have in my world, but now that I know what you do, and what you have done for our family, I will always be aware and I will try to help families and your organization in the future. I spent hours and weeks trying to find help after my children were unjustly taken from me, and finally I found Defenders of Children. Words cannot even say it... that no one else was hearing us. Basically, they are the most amazing group of people I have ever encountered. It is refreshing to know that there are people out there who are looking for the best interests of children and for them to be safe, especially when the system lets us down. With counseling for me, and medical care and testing for my children, with letting me know that the truth would come out, encouraging me not to give up, legal help from David Lujan and social service guidance from Donnalee and emotional support when I needed it; Donnalee, who didn't even know me or my children's situation at the time, but who listened in a nonjudgmental way, and asked for documents to back up my story. Unfortunately, the justice system does let us down sometimes and children end up with abusers. If it wasn't for Defenders, I don't know what I would have done. Without them I wouldn't be in a good place. I wish there were more more outstanding individuals like this. Thank you, Raquel.
