Causes: Alzheimers Disease, Health
Mission: The organization's purpose is to provide funding for 1) research focused on the prevention of and finding a cure for alzheimer's disease, 2) to promote an increased public awareness of symptoms, treatments, and care of individuals with alzheimer's disease, and 3) to increase the accessibility of care and treatment for those afflicted with alzheimer's disease.
Programs: One of the organization's primary activities in 2017 was funding the support group called "beyond alzheimer's". The group was headed and facilitated by patti davis, daughter of nancy and president ronald reagan. The group met twice a week at st. John's hospital in santa monica, california and averaged about 30 participants for each meeting. Such participants were family and caregivers of alzheimer's patients. Also at each meeting, there was a doctor to provide information to any medical questions participants may have. The group ceased meeting locally as of may 31, 2017 in order for patti davis to share her unique approach to counseling families and caregivers on a national level. Dfjarf facilitated meetings for patti davis with lou ruvo' s center for brain health/ cleveland clinic, uc san diego's dr. William mobley, mt. Sinai hospital in new york city, stanford university and the keck center at university of southern california/ dr. David agus. The first group to license patti davis's group is the highly esteemed cleveland clinic (lou ruvo center for brain health) and its satellites, a move that was made possible and secured by the efforts of the organization. . The organization donated funds to the actors fund home, a long term memory care facility, located in englewood, new jersey in which such funds were used to endow a bed in the alzheimer's unit in memory of deane f. Johnson who was a dedicated actors fund board member and who suffered from alzheimer's disease. . The organization donated funds to the wallace rheumatic disease foundation to aid in conducting research on the link between autoimmune diseases and alzheimer's disease. There have been increasing calls by researchers in the last 3 years to have alzheimer's disease classified as an autoimmune disease. . The organization also donated funds to usagainstalzhiemers, an organization dedicated to prevent and effectively treat alzheimer's by 2025 by working with various partners across various sectors to bring greater awareness and secure increase funding for research. . Kate johnson, president of dfjarf met with dr. Cummings along with larry and camille ruvo to discuss an ongoing effort to organize an event in las vegas which would benefit both dfj and "keep memory alive. " this organization led by dr. Jeffrey cummings is dedicated to research and clinical trials which will hopefully lead to a prevention or cure for alzheimer's. "keep memory alive" is part of the lou ruvo center for brain health at the cleveland clinic.
