Mission: Day one is the only agency in rhode island organized specifically to deal with issues of sexual assault as a community concern. Day one's mission is to reduce the prevalence of sexual abuse and violence, and to support and advocate for those affected by it. Day one provides clinical, advocacy, prevention education and training, and ri children's advocacy center services.
Programs: Clinical - day one provides counseling services to child and adult victims of sexual abuse and to their families and significant others. Individual, group and family counseling are available on a sliding scale fee basis for individuals without health insurance. During the year ended december 31, 2017, approximately 761 individuals were served through the clinical program.
education and training - day one's education and training program provides prevention education workshops for children, adolescents and adults. In addition, it offers professional training for hospitals, police departments, schools and other professionals, as well as presentations to the general public on issues relating to sexual abuse, sexual harassment and sexual assault. Approximately 6,502 individuals participated in education and training programs during 2017.
advocacy - local counselors/advocates are available to provide confidential support, information and advocacy, on the telephone, at the police station and hospital and/or court for both adult and child victims of sexual assault. Approximately 608 individuals received services through the advocacy program during 2017. In addition, day one's law enforcement advocates provided services to 2,957 victims through police departments in northern rhode island, providence, warwick, west warwick, narragansett, north kingstown and south kingstown.
victims of crime hotline- in partnership with the blackstone valley advocacy center, day one provides a 24-hour, toll free victims of crime helpline. During the year ended december 31, 2017, volunteer advocates contributed nearly 12,000 hours of volunteer service, responding to 420 helpline calls. Ri children's advocacy center - day one's rhode island children's advocacy center provides evaluation, evidence gathering and counseling services to child victims of sexual and/or physical abuse and their non-offending family members. During 2017, 327 child victims were served by the ri children's advocacy center.
