Mission: After 39 years of successfully providing safe shelter and wrap-around services to more than 3,000 homeless mothers with young children in Hillsborough County, Dawning Family Services (formerly Alpha House of Tampa) has significantly stepped up our efforts to serve the critical and swelling need that exists to provide housing stability for ALL types of disenfranchised families.
In 2018, our board approved a new mission statement--to create sustainable change in the lives of our community’s most vulnerable families--as well as a new name to reflect this change. This expanded mission allows us now to serve all types of at-risk families (including 2-parent, multi-generational, and single fathers) who have children and are experiencing the crisis of homelessness.
In addition, we now provide prevention/diversion services to families who are unstably housed and in danger of becoming homeless if not provided help to get them back on their feet.
With our recent purchase of a new property at 6718 N. Armenia Avenue in West Tampa, a low-income area of Hillsborough County, we are perfectly positioned to launch these efforts to make homelessness rare, brief and non-recurring under the umbrella of what we are calling the Family Housing Solutions Center.

I love being part of an organization that helps families in the community. Dawning Family Services is an amazing organization and is responding to the lack of emergency shelter for homeless families in Hillsborough County, FL in a big way. They are getting ready to build a 61 unit shelter and will soon start working with families who are at risk of homelessness.
