Damascus Help is an organizations dedicated to helping our neighbors in the Damascus, Clarksburg, Laytonsville, Monrovia, and Ijamsville, MD areas. We are feeding about 60-70 families a month. Paying for medicines, electric/heating oil/water bills for about 15-20 families a month. We also pick up donated furniture and deliver it to clients. If people need rides to the doctor/chemotherapy/ialysis treatment we pick them up and wait for them and then take them home at no charge. Our staff consists of between 75-100 volunteers and our operating costs are less than 1 % which means that almost all the money donated goes right back out to the community. We are simply neighbor helping neighbor because but for the grace of God, we might be in the same situation as our clients.

Damascus Help started in 1969 to help our neighbors in need. It is an all-volunteer organization that helps people with food, financial assistance, donated furniture and household items, clothing, school supplies, holiday food and gifts and transportation to medical appointments. We have about 75 volunteers. I started in 1980 answering the Help-line where people call seeking our services. When my children were older, I started delivering groceries from our food pantry to those in need. Through the years I have volunteered in many committees, food, furniture and financial assistance. There is an increase in the number of people calling for our help. Our administration expense is less than 1% because we are volunteers who work out of our homes so what is donated to us can go to help people in need.
