The one thing you're going to get at Dallas LIFE that you won't get at any other shelter is a spiritual awakening. I've been taught that when I leave here I will be a productive member of society, and that my growth will continue! - Angela
I came to Dallas Life with little to nothing. I had lost my job and found it almost impossible to find another one. After three months of searching for employment I had exhausted all my resources including mental energy and I was emotionally drained. I needed a new start in Life and found Dallas Life just in time. Dallas Life was a resource incomparable to anything I had imagined. All the pieces were put back together again thanks to the New Life Program at Dallas Life.
Dallas LIFE is truly a wonderful organization that changes lives for Christ! I am honored to have been on the Board for several years now and hope to become more involved as a volunteer. Bob Sweeney and his team all have a heart for the homeless and for Christ. If you are looking for a charity to which to donate or otherwise become involved, look no further!

I am working at Dallas Life as a counseling Intern and I get to work often with children and their parents. Before I began working at Dallas Life I would've never thought that given the options the safest place for a child would be at a shelter. This is a remarkable and unique characteristic of Dallas LIFE.
Here children are valued, families are encouraged to work together and stay together, and individuals of all ages and varying levels of ability are provided the change to start over. At Dallas LIFE all groups: individuals, couples, families, teens and children are given the chance to do personal work in counseling, build healthy relationships and work towards a bright future.
I am grateful to play a small part of the safety, learning, creativity and life change that is offered to residents here at Dallas LIFE.
Dallas Life is about addressing the real life needs of those individuals and/or families who find themselves searching, searching for help, hope, and a hand up. Dallas Life is consistent in it's message of providing for the homeless in Dallas and has demonstrated year over year that lives can be changed when someone gives them support to get past their current circumstances. Dallas Life not only talks about the hope that a life focused on Christ can achieve, it daily demonstrates the love of Christ to those reaching out for help.

I found Dallas Life after reading about them in the Dallas Morning News several months ago, and began volunteering there. I've owned and run several businesses in the Dallas area over the past 28 years, and can say from firsthand experience that Dallas Life is a first-rate organization. Dallas Life is frugal, and very careful with all items and funds donated. They treat their residents with the utmost respect, taking care of their immediate needs and also pointing them to Biblical principles to address long-term issues in their life. At every turn, I am impressed with how Dallas Life emphasizes LOVING the residents who they serve. Come and see for yourself!

Dallas Life is more than just a homeless shelter - It is a safe haven where residents can learn that the only way out of poverty is through empowerment, not entitlement. Each resident is given the opportunity to learn basic life and employment skills that will enable them to attain and maintain employment so that they may be able to sustain themselves and/or their families. At the core of this teaching is a strong faith-based, Christ-centered environment where residents find or renew their faith in God. Residents learn to draw their strength and empowerment through faith in God. Dallas Life is successful because it provides a "hand-up" rather than a "hand-out."

I have been involved with Dallas Life for over 6 years. Dallas Life is an amazing organization that seeks to heal the entire family and not just provide a handout to the homeless. The long term recovery program is second to none and the success stories are amazing and plentiful. I'm honored that I get to be a part of what God is doing through Dallas Life. I would encourage anyone to find out more about Dallas Life.

My wife and I have supported Dallas Life for 30 years. We have made donations of money and clothing. We helped with accounting presentations to make it easier for potential donors better understand how they help people change their lives.
We really like that in additional to providing food and sleeping accommodations, Dallas Life changes lives. They help alcoholics, drug addicts, prostitutes, homeless, those who have lost their jobs, those with anger management issues change their lives. Their 10 month New Life program address these issues.
New Life teaches them how to use a computer, create a resume, prepare for an interview. They also provide donated clothes so they look nice for the interview. They have a medical clinic and provide free dentistry services. This is a place for people who want to get better. They don't allow drinking or drugs. Everyone is asked to help out in some way. This helping out creates self respect. It gets people to change from takers to givers and improve their lives and not depend on society for handouts.
This is a terrific program thanks to staff, volunteers, and the homeless who want to change.
The Name says it all. Dallas Life is on a mission to change lives. I came there from Ohio after nearly 15 years of being homeless. I suffered from drug and alcohol addiction that took away my middle class life and left me on the streets with out friends or family due to my behavior. Dallas Life took me in and allowed me to stay several days while I learned what they had to offer and make up my mind if I was ready to do what was necessary to put my life back in order. I thank God I made the right choice and stayed. I enrolled in their 10 month New Life program and with Gods Grace and Mercy along with the dedicated staff and guidance and structure built into their program, my life started changing and improving from the start. It wasn't always easy but a lot of things worth having aren't. I realized early on that my way of doing things had not served me well and I needed to let someone else take over. That someone was God, through him, in the form of Dallas Life and it's staff. The lessons I learned in class and the example that the staff set keep me going strong to this day almost 5 years later. Dallas Life is not only for drug and alcohol rehabilitation, it's also there to help anyone with life problems in general ranging from making bad decisions, to economical reasons that got them in the situation they are currently in. The combination of class room studies, counseling and bible studies is geared to give anyone the attributes necessary to succeed in life. Dallas Life offers GED classes to assist in getting an high school diploma along with a wide range of life skills, parenting, budgeting, anger management, addiction and Christian studies classes. They also help with job leads and housing assistance for their program graduates. Mentors are available to help guide, direct and set a positive example on a one to one basis for the men and women. This was of particular help to me due to the fact that after so many years of homelessness, a person's mind can become so engrained in an particular behavior pattern you need someone you trust to help teach you how to live again. It hurt's my heart to hear people twist and say negative things about good organizations only because they weren't ready or willing to get the help that was offered to them or because they have been given bad information by others. What ever the reason, all I know is that in my almost 5 year association with Dallas Life, I have seen the life's of hundreds of men, women and children transformed and helped back into society with a positive Christian faith, confidence, and all the tools they need to succeed.
Dallas Life as well as other non profit organizations rely in part on volunteers to help keep them running smoothly. I've seen first hand the impact volunteers can have on the lives of others especially the children, and in turn the impact the family's and children have on the lives of the volunteers. Consider volunteering, have a wonderful day.
Thank You For Your Time.
