Programs: Clinical counseling: daemion counseling center, inc. Provides mental health counseling to individuals, couples, and famililes. The goal of counseling is to assist clients to increase self-awareness so that they are equipped to make more effective life choices, and to improve their ability to cope with daily as well as unexpected stresses. Therapists help clients process developmental and trauma-related experiences that shape their patterns of processing the world and relating to others. In the safety of the therapy room, clients explore their thoughts and feelings, and address behavioral concerns. Couples gain an understanding of their partner's interpretation of events, learn to communicate more effectively, modify their own actions in anticipation of their partner's perception, and support their partner through moments of vulnerability. Accomplishments: during 2014, daemion counseling center, inc. Provided services to 248 clients, most who participated in therapy for one clinical session (50 minutes) each week for an average of ten months, or 9,920 hours of therapy. Approximately 47% of our clients report annual household incomes of less than $30,000, with 26% of clients stating household income of less than $15,000 per year. 69% of our clients come from chester county, pennsylvania, 18% from delaware county, pennsylvania, 12% from montgomery county, pennsylvania, and 1% from philadelphia county, pennsylvania. With a cost of $110 per session to deliver services, all of our clients received some sort of financial assistance to participate in counseling. Drug and alcohol evaluations: in accordance with guidelines established by the pennsylvania department of health, drug and alcohol evaluations are designed for both adolescents and adults. Screening tools assess for severity and duration of drug and/or alcohol use, as well as an individual's beliefs about the impact and consequences of his/her use. Most clients who attend for drug and alcohol evaluations are mandated by the court system. Accomplishments: following the formal evaluation, therapists produce a narrative explaining the process, describing the clinical assessment of the client's drug and/or alcohol problem, and making recommendations for additional treatment if appropriate. Most clients are cited for under-age drinking. The ability of daemion counseling center to complete the evaluations thoroughly and quickly fosters our relationship with magistrates and attorneys, and garners respect for daemion counseling center's professional interventions in this area. Anger management: the anger management program is an intensive 10-week program for individuals who express anger in socially compromising ways. The anger management educator helps clients understand how they experience anger, and teaches more appropriate strategies for management and expression of anger. Accomplishments: most referrals for the anger management program come from human resource departments or court mandates; however some are self-referred individuals who want to improve the quality of their relationships, particulary within work and family environments. The staxi-ii evaluation instrument is used to assess an individual's anger experience, and provides an evidenced-based guide to treatment. Daemion counseling center's program is exceptional because it is an individual rather than a group format such that the client works one-on-one with the therapist to address issues of concern particular to the client. All clients who participated in the anger management program during 2014 demonstrated improvement in their ability to identify triggers and manage their responses.
