More than 10 years ago we began adopting from Dachshund Lovers of Texas Rescue. Then one day we decided we just needed to start fostering and now more than 6 ½ years later we have fostered more than 60 dogs in our home. Why? Because of the heart of this Rescue. We may not be able to save every dachshund who is in need out there, but for the ones we do save, we change their world, give them another chance and sometime love they never knew before. Regardless of a dogs medical conditions, every time they are willing to go to great lengths to do whatever is necessary to restore health, stop pain and bring quality of life back to a dog regardless of age. Making sure a new home is the perfect fit and truly being an advocate for every dog. I am blessed and honored to be a part of a little rescue with a huge heart!

This organization is wonderful. I had recently lost my beloved dachshund and donated to this organization on his behalf. A little while later my husband and I became volunteers and fosters. They did such a great job matching us with dachshunds to foster that fit perfectly with our other 2 dogs. This organization is small but so well run. They truly care about each and every dog and volunteer.

This non-profit really cares about animals and their wellbeing, regardless of age or previous trauma they have been through. They work so hard to provide the right care whether it's medical care, emotional care, or physical care for all dachshunds and other breeds. It's a no brainer this group and the people in it have hearts of gold and want the best for the sweet babies that provide us so much joy everyday! We adopted through this group and couldn't be happier to have saved a sweet, loving dachshund back in our home after we lost our first baby and are able to provide a loving home for him for the rest of his life!

Dachshund Lovers Of Texas does amazing work and is very well respected in the rescue community! They have a long standing relationship with several Dallas-Fort Worth area shelters where they rescue many seniors as well as those with extensive medical problems and see to it that all of their issues are addressed. The dogs reside in foster homes where they are part of the family until they’re adopted. All adopters go through a screening process to make sure the prospective home is a good fit for each dog. DLT is a great group of caring people whose passion is taking care of dachshunds in need.

I have the pleasure and satisfaction of serving on the Board of Directors for the Dachshund Lovers of Texas. I've been in dog rescue for well over 20 years, and most of it working with saving Dachshunds as well as mixes and other breeds. Having worked with multiple organizations in the past I've focused on Dachshund Lovers of Texas because they have several factors that I feel make them essential. They are willing to take on many of the older Dachshunds and those with medical needs. This is not the most quick or lucrative way to rescue but it sure is a necessity for dogs in need. They don't skimp on vetting and do true "full" veterinary care, even including extensive and expensive dental work and specialty care. Finally, they have an all foster-based rescue system that consists of volunteers who all treat the dogs with as much love as their personal pets. In short, this is a dog-centered rescue with love for the pets as the driving purpose! The photo is of a former foster dog,Phoebe, taken while she was in veterinary intensive care for severe hemorrhagic gastroenteritis. She's fully cured now and is loved and spoiled by her adoptive family!

DLT goes above and beyond in the care of the doxies that come into the organization. They take any Dachshund that needs some TLC and do a thorough vetting of prospective adopters. Each doxie is loved and cared for!

My husband and I have been foster/ volunteers for Dachshund Lovers of Texas for quite a few years now. This rescue takes a lot of the less adoptable Dachshunds that likely won't make it out of shelters and provides them with top notch medical care and the training needed to make them more adoptable. Several of our fosters have gone on to find wonderful homes with loving families! All donations go directly for the medical care of the dogs and we are proud to be a part of Dachshund Lovers of Texas!

Love this group. DLT is a wonderful, caring group. They take in so many seniors and special needs dogs that otherwise wouldn’t have had a chance. I just adopted a precious, little senior from them.

Been fostering/volunteering for DLT for close to 8 yrs now and the reward has always outweighed the heartache. We couldn’t find a nicer group of folks which makes it even easier but being loved by a dachshund always outweighs anything else! Thank you Rich & Kim!

I have been volunteering for Dachshund Lovers of Texas for about 3 1/2 years now and it has been so rewarding. Owners Rich and Linda do so much for so many dachsunds and the volunteers are so dedicated to helping get these dogs into wonderful homes. I cannot say enough good things about this organization. I love volunteering for them and feel very proud to be a part of such a caring, dedicated group.

A wonderful local rescue for dachshunds, I have both adopted from and volunteered for DLTR. A personable, organized group committed to the welfare and future of the dogs they rescue, it is hard to imagine better leadership or a better second chance for these pups.
