Causes: Engineering & Technology, Technology
Mission: D-Rev exists to close the quality healthcare gap for under served populations by designing and delivering medical technologies.
Results: As of 2015, 7,531 amputees had been fit with the ReMotion Knee or its precursor, the JaipurKnee. 148,300 babies around the world were treated for jaundice with Brilliance, 124,800 of whom would not have had access to effective treatment otherwise. This means about 1,900 newborn deaths and disabilities have been averted.
Target demographics: Populations around the world without access to affordable, high-quality medical devices
Geographic areas served: 44 countries worldwide
Programs: We have launched several iterations of Brilliance, an affordable, world-class phototherapy device targeted at low-resource urban and peri-urban hospitals and clinics serving people living on less than $4 per day. Brilliance provides effective, efficient, and environment-appropriate phototherapy treatment for $400, 1/10 the cost of comparable Western devices. We have also launched iterations of the ReMotion Knee, a polymer-based knee joint for above-knee amputees. The ReMotion Knee delivers gait performance comparable to Western knees that cost more than $4,000 USD, but retails for less than $85. We are in the process of creating new iterations of these products, as well as testing new product ideas for engineering, distribution, and marketing viability.
