Czech Center Museum Houston was a great place to volunteer during college. There was always some work to do, whether it was bartending, writing newsletters or giving docent tours. Sandra Samolik, the director during my stay until 2021, made me feel welcomed and appreciated.
The center does have a good connection with Czech families to preserve history into the 21st century. The family-friendly events were usually a hit and got a lot of people exposed to the museum and Czech culture. The center was never able to expand its reach significantly while I volunteered there but I think with some fresh leadership in the board of directors it's possible.
This is a real jewel. Super building, lots of great events. The staff there does a great job of making everyone feel welcome.
This absolutely lovely organization exemplifies community, sharing not just the history and culture of the Czech people, it also showcases creative expression by current artists. The social events are buoyed by the joy and warmth of the folks that work and volunteer at the Center. I leave with a smile, feeling more connected and proud of my Czech heritage. Taking advantage of the Monday evening language lessons are on my wish list!
What a hidden gem in Houston. The museum is in an unassuming part of town, but once you go inside, you are greeted by tall, beautiful stained glass windows, a grand stair case, and precious collections of Czech art pieces.
The center holds a lot of community activities to introduce both Czech and non-Czechs to Czech music, food, culture, art, you name it! There are activities for children too, which is helpful for parents with young ones. There is a wonderful interactive exhibit that takes up an entire floor that my son loves to roam around in, and not to mention the library that I could spend hours in.
And lastly - the staff are friendly and are so excited to share their knowledge and love of Czech history and culture!
Great location in the Houston Museum District. They have great music and arts events. The auditorium is large and beautiful with great acoustics. You can always network and make new friends. I always meet new friends and visit with interesting people. also really good finger food and good wine. The staff is helpful and friendly. The Czech Center is an asset to the Houston community
A hidden gem in Houston! There are numerous events throughout the year worth attending. The staff walked with us through the permanent exhibit and provided excellent history to complement the items on display.
My sister in law is from Poland and she loved the museum.
Beautiful location and lovely building with stained glass windows and European entrance. Czech members very friendly folks who embrace new visitors. Wishing I lived closer to visit more often.
This is a jewel in the museum district. The staff is professional knowledgeable and friendly. The exhibits and concerts are excellent and relevant. Their children programs are valuable additions to the community. Everyone should experience the hospitality and and immersion into the exhibits.
This is a wonderful organization. We have gone to a number of their events, learned about Czech. It brings back fond memories of my mom when we go to their festivals. They are a great outreach, and always greets folks with a warm welcome. You cannot do better than to support a local grassroots organization like the Czech Center.
My husband and I volunteered at CCMC from the earliest day gift shop at Northwest Mall and at our gift shop on San Jacinto until his death in 2011. I continued until I was physically unable to volunteer.
The center has grown with support from dedicated donors and volunteers. It is a wonderful addition to the Houston community with the exhibits and events celebrating our Czech Culture. The center has offered demonstrations on Czech glass, egg decoration, and so forth.
Personal tours are available on a drop-in basis and other tours can be scheduled. The exhibits include the cultural dress of some areas of the Czech Republic and Czech items in the gift shop. A selection of books, glass wear, jewelry, and other items may be purchased. The library has books for research at the center.
Come visit the Czech Cultural and Community Center.

My husband's family is German/Czech (I should say it Czech/German, I'm sure) and this Center is such a treasure in the Museum Park District of Houston! The building itself looks like it could be in a Czech city; it's beautiful when you come in as well. Looking forward to what I hear is an exciting schedule of upcoming events, cultural activities and neighborhood interaction!!
