The LGBT program manager and coordinator have instituted the policy of giving extra lunches to just the long time clients. Everyone attending the lunch bunch should have the opportunity to get an extra lunch. This policy is inherently unfair. They also unabashedly show favoritism in allowing their favorites to attend events where a limited number of people can attend. Some of these events have financial incentives.

The Curry Senior Center lunch program is one of the best volunteer experiences I've ever had. The staff is great, the lunch is well-organized, and the seniors are really appreciative. The official job description is to serve a hot lunch, but the real job is to socialize with the seniors! Many of them live alone, and this lunch may be the only chance they'll have to talk with anyone all day. A simple "Hi!," especially to someone quiet and shy, can mean a lot. The seniors are low-income, and a lot of them have disabilities, but the dining room is bright, cheerful, and lively. People hang out, read the newspapers, and talk to their friends. The Curry staff is caring and friendly, and they make me feel welcome and valued. The tasks are simple: five or six volunteers and staff organize back-to-back lunches with food donated by Project Open Hand, serving a total of around 170. I love giving such excellent food to seniors who may otherwise go hungry. Every time I volunteer here, I feel I'm really making a difference!
