Training of our members in using ixiti, by culturesource staff, is an ongoing activity.
culturesource's membership meetings and re:source conference are two examples of how culturesource brings the arts and culture sector in southeastern michigan together to learn about important topics; get to know each other for professional and social purposes; to hear about opportunities for new financial and other opportunities; and to improve their marketing and audience development, community engagement, financial, and programmatic skills. These trainings and networking opportunities have led to many collaborations and have helped to unite diverse organizations around common goals. Through a partnership with the devos institute for arts management, more than 50 organizations gained skills in board management, strategic planning and artistic planning. Culturesource's website and monthly newsletter provides current information for arts & culture professionals.
culturesource connects nonprofit arts and culture organizations to other community initiatives and sectors. In 2014 community groups and arts and culture cohorts were convened by cs to determine areas of interest and need, as well as to determine best combinations of organizations with those things in common. Another area of work in 2014 was the review and presentation of the strategic alliance project that positively impacted more than 30 organizations which worked together in four different alliances to solve specific challenges. The executive director sits on the michigan nonprofit assn's public policy commission. Cs convened a community group & members to develop a diversity plan. Thus we were selected for an mna/ new program for 2015.
culturesource is frequently engaged in special initiatives. In 2014 funding of the devos institute through culturesource was one way in which a special initiative was important for culturesource members. Another special initiative was working with two funders to manage application reviews.

This organization is poorly run and lacks transparency. Communication is always dicey: if you phone, someone might answer, or not.. If you email, you might get an answer, but most of the time you don't. Grantmaking is haphazard. Every interaction with this organization requires a combination of luck and a politically correct socioeconomic profile. Actual artistic considerations are secondary.
