Cultivate International fills the gap that other charities have overlooked. Elaine saw firsthand the aftermath in a community when a charity leaves and the money dries up. The change doesn't last. Cultivate finds leaders in these communities, mentors them, and then supports them as they work to create lasting change. Change can be implemented and sustained by cultivating strong, community-based leaders who know the people they work with. This is precisely what Cultivate International does.

I have referred people to Cultivate International for years and have always gotten good feedback. I'm a donor and believer in all they do. I've known their founder for many years. She is passionate about equipping people so that they can do community development in a way that fosters independence, rather than creating unintended dependencies.
This year my nonprofit, Food for His Children, received a grant for professional development for our Tanzanian employees so that we could enroll them in the Cultivate Program. Cultivate International is helping to equip my entire team in Tanzania to become the best we can be so that the work we are doing can have impact that matters and is focused on our mission. Elaine, the Executive Director, is impeccable and so organized. She is an expert in community development and skilled at taking complex topics and making them simple and easy to manage. The Cultivate training modules provide action steps and easily applicable lessons. They don't just provide information, they provide tools to apply the information to bolster your program. Elaine has revamped the training modules for our team so they can be applied to people who are working for a community development organization, not just people who are starting them. Elaine is gifted with administration and organization. She is an expert at explaining processes, why they are important and how to put them in place.
Cultivate International is an excellent program. In equipping our team, they are equipping thousands as they pass on the knowledge they get from the program.
Cultivate is one of the best organiztions that is fighting to help communities have something to fight for. Cultivate through their training has impacted my community i a way that is going to propel us to greater heights. If i were to choose again, i would choose cultivate over and over again.
Cultivate is a great example of a non-profit that recognizes the gaps and injustices in the world without feeling the need to use its privilege to be a savior. What makes Cultivate distinct in this work of community development is its belief that local insiders are the ones who should be leading programs in their communities. Cultivate refers to those involved in its programs as partners, because we believe that our job is to be co-creators; to create opportunities and resources that help these community leaders to grow in their capacity to create sustainable and revelant programs.
I have supported many nonprofit organizations over the years but I believe Cultivate International is truly unique. The vision for it developed out of years of experience and it was built with honesty and hard work. The aim is to provide a multi-faceted support system for people who want make positive changes in their own communities. So, if someone nationally or internationally sees a need in their community, has an idea of how to make it better, and has the heart to pursue that goal, Cultivate helps to provide the training and the tools they need to achieve it.
Also, I have witnessed the leadership adapt quickly and conscientiously to current events. This willingness to learn and grow with the times is evidence to me that they are in tune with real life experiences and that they will be around for a very long time.

I was an intern with Cultivate International for a few months. I think Cultivate is unique from other International Development nonprofits because it focuses on supporting leaders who are driving change within their communities instead of driving the change from the international nonprofit level.
