Critical Path Institute

I am the President and CEO of the Biotechnology Industry Organization. We represent 900 biotech companies in the U.S. and abroad. The work of C-PATH in drug development tools in of great service to accelerating the work of these companies to produce new breakthrough medicines to treat and cure diseases.

Critical Path Institute is making a real difference by helping clear the path toward speedier approval of drugs and medical devices by the FDA. It does so without having any financial stake in the outcome, but by doing the tedious and often "mundane" work of getting clear, consistent protocols in place so that drug trials can move ahead more quickly. By doing so, it makes a real contribution to improving the health of people all around the world. It is a real pleasure to be associated with an organization that has such a clear mission and pursues it so selflessly.

Developing new medications is very expensive and takes a long time. Individual patients and society as a whole benefit by anything that makes this process more efficient. C-Path is a unique organization that brings together various stakeholders to advance this process. It has developed a reputation as an "honest broker" and that is not easy in this space. In a short period of time it has made great contributions in defining and validating outcomes in a rare disease. This better allows development of therapies for that disease. Among other accomplishments is bringing multiple groups together to determine better ways to develop treatments for tuberculosis. These are but two of many unique contributions to more efficient development of therapies for important diseases.

Critical Path Institute is a primary change agent in drug development. As a neutral scientific organization it is working with the government and industry to enable the sharing of disease information and the creation of new tools that will make a major difference in how fast effective drugs can be made available to patients.
