Mission: Covenant house illinois, inc. ("ch illinois"), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, incorporated in illinois, was established to deal with the nomadic, homeless and delinquent adolescent in the context of the full range of problems which the adolescent experiences. The target populations that ch illinois will serve are homeless youth, both male and female, between the ages of 18 and 21.
Programs: Ch illinois is dedicated to serving all god's children with absolute respect and unconditional love, to help suffering homeless kids, and to protect and safeguard all children in need. Ch illinois is committed to serve suffering children of the street, and to protect and safeguard all children. Just as christ in his humanity is the visible sign of god's presence among his people, so their efforts together in the covenant community are a visible sign that effects the presence of god, working through the holy spirit among ourselves and the kids. Almost 40% of the homeless in the united states are under age 18. Every year, more than 2 million kids in america will face a period of homelessness. Kids become homeless for a variety of reasons, including running away from home, being abandoned by parents or guardians, emancipation and aging out of state or foster care. Once homeless, few safety nets are available to young people who are still financially, emotionally and legally dependent upon adults. Without resources, an adequate support system and the skills to live independently, the streets can become one of the only options for homeless youth. Homeless youths have multiple problems of such overwhelming dimensions and complexity that they demonstrate a severe sense of hopelessness. Although many healthcare, educational and social welfare programs exist in local illinois communities, these kids cannot take advantage of the services available until the basic needs for shelter and food, provided in a secure setting, are met. Ch illinois will provide the immediate needs of food, clothing, medical help, counseling and emotional support, and begin the process of stabilizing the youth in the ch illinois surrogate family.
