Courts for Kids is an excellent and reputable organization that I believe truly impacts the kids that it serves. Their mission is to go into impoverished, underdeveloped communities where drugs, sex trade, delinquency, etc are high and build a multi-use sports court to give the kids of the community an alternative, if not an escape, from negative behaviors they could otherwise be sucked into. I participated with the Courts for Kids on a trip to the Dominican Republic and the whole process was wonderful. Derek Nesland was more than helpful as he went above and beyond what was expected to ensure that our group was funded, equipped, and prepared.
One other great thing about Courts for Kids is that they work exclusively with Peace Corp volunteers. This means that a Peace Corp volunteer stationed in a community must apply to have a court built, which adds credibility to the need while also providing highly beneficial insights into the community prior to the construction crew arriving. This ensures seamless integration between Courts for Kids, volunteers, and the community.
I highly recommend Courts for Kids.
