This organization represented a relative of mine. I have been an attorney for 15 years. I have never seen such a lack of interest in or advocacy for a client in my life. Their representation has been horrific, leaving my relative to suffer in jail for 8 months (AND COUNTING) while waiting for a trial that has NOT been scheduled. Despite express case law that should have helped my relative, they have failed to file any motions to assist in his defense. It seems the only efforts they make are efforts to delay the trial over my relative's objections and I have to wonder if they just don't have the time or professional capacity to actually try this case. They refused to talk to me or provide me his file despite my status as an attorney and member of the Washington Bar Association and despite my relative's repeated, explicit direction that they share all information and his file with me. The managing attorney will not return any of my calls. The office manager flat out lied to me about giving me the file. I am sick about the level of representation they provided to this ill, homeless man who essentially had no options but to take the free representation offered by Chelan County. If Chelan County truly wants those needing a public defender to have a decent attorney, it should rethink this contract! If zero stars were an option, that is the rating I would provide.
