Mission: Providing assistance such as shelter, transportation, food, medication, and other financial assistance to homeless or needy individuals. Approximately 7000 individuals benefited from these services last year. COSAC also gave assistance to other charitable entities such as, the Red Cross.
Programs: Cosac developed the homeless voice newspaper, a funding tool, which has been responsible for employing homeless people and therefore giving them income to survive, enabling victims of economic plight to find shelter. The "homeless voice newspaper" is the means by which we advocate on behalf of the homeless population and educate the public as to the true nature of homelessness and ways we can all work to eliminate the bias this sector of our population and help empower those affected by homelessness to regain or maintain their self esteem and sense of self worth during their transition through difficult times.
cosac also independently feeds the homeless population in need of food. The clients receive three meals a day at arnolds cafe, named after the great homeless advocate arnold abbott. Cosac foundation decided to become the south florida county food pantry. This service helps cosac to provide food for those "nearly homeless" families.
