Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Community Service Clubs, Homeless & Housing

Mission: In 1989, CCO sprang forth from a grassroots outreach of the now 27 year-old church community Jesus People USA Evangelical Covenant Church (JPUSA). With a genuine heart for the poor and choosing to live amongst them, Jesus People in 1979 opened their doors to some neighbors in need of meal. Starting with 2-3 individuals the numbers grew to 40-50, then 100-120, and within a few years peaked at 200-300 per day. Today, with numerous programs for the homeless and poor, CCO continues this same tradition of service with the same love, warmth and commitment to these neighbors.

Programs: Interim housing for families & single adults - these shelters provide approximately 120 days of housing, nutritious meals, clothing, group & individual counseling, individualized case management, nursing, as needed mental health assessments, life-skills training, substance abuse counseling, money management, job assessment, job readiness, job referral, computer training classes, housing relocation assistance, & afterschool programs for kids. These programs operate year round & include:hannah interim housing - shelters 55 women with children, including a few couples with children. It is handicap accessible. As the organization's longest running shelter, it has enabled hundreds of families to move from homelessness to stable housing for over 20 years. I have been donating to CCO for several years, and have found the staff to be wonderful people, that care for the homeless in the Uptown Area of Chicago. My small donations were
received with gratitude. They provide support and access to permanent housing for men, women and children. Some charities cater to a particular sex or religion, but CCO has broad shoulders and helps all, despite limited resources. I donate to them also through Amazon Smile, which remits a percentage of sales to CCO as the designated recipient. I feel good about this organization, and will support them going forward!
