I recently had the privilege of participating in a trip to an orphanage in Mexico, organized by Corazon de Vida on Oct 19th. I am truly grateful for the care, precision, and dedication they put into planning this experience. It gave us a glimpse into the incredible work they do day in and day out for orphaned and abandoned children.

The orphanage itself was beautifully maintained, with inviting activity areas for the children and a staff that clearly prioritizes both the physical and emotional well-being of the kids. The attentiveness to mental health counseling, tutoring, and overall nurturing was remarkable. I remembered that when most of the kids were playing balloons with volunteer students, they chased each other and tried to pop up others' balloons, the balloon popping sound scared one boy who tried to cover his ears and hide himself. One staff noticed it and stayed with him and talked and comforted him until the game was over. The high quality of food, the joyful atmosphere, and the warmth radiating from the children spoke volumes about the positive impact Corazon de Vida is making.

Corazon de Vida is a remarkable organization, committed to breaking the cycle of poverty and abandonment in Baja, Mexico. Through their support of multiple orphanages, they provide essential resources such as food, education, and healthcare, ensuring that these children not only survive but thrive. I’m deeply impressed by the stories of some kids joined school basketball team while some kids went to great colleges and universities. Their long-term vision of empowering youth through education is creating lasting change, offering these children a real chance at a brighter future.

This trip was a powerful reminder of the importance of their mission to raise, educate, and empower these children for a brighter future. I feel fortunate to have witnessed the impact of their efforts firsthand.

A Heartfelt Experience with Corazon de Vida

I recently had the opportunity to visit one of the orphanages supported by Corazon de Vida, and I am deeply moved by the experience. Corazon de Vida is an incredible nonprofit that fundraises for orphanages in Baja California and organizes trips for those who want to get involved and spend a day with the children. It was inspiring to see firsthand how the funds are being put to use, ensuring that the children not only have a safe place to call home but also the resources they need to thrive.

The facility provides a nurturing environment, offering shelter, education, and a quiet space equipped with technology for the children to study, complete their homework, and relax. It was heartwarming to see how the children interacted—they truly felt like family, supporting and looking out for one another. The sense of community among them was incredibly encouraging, and it is clear that Corazon de Vida is doing everything possible to help these children develop into healthy, productive adults.

I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to spend time with these amazing children and to witness the positive impact that Corazon de Vida is making in their lives. Their dedication to ensuring the well-being of these children and providing them with the skills they need to be successful is truly commendable. I look forward to continuing to support Corazon de Vida and their mission.

With gratitude,
Veronica Miramontes

I discovered Corazón de Vida through a good friend who took me to an orphanage that the organization faithfully supports in Tijuana. After engaging with the children and the staff at one of the 11 orphanages that CDV sponsors, I felt compelled to learn more. Upon meeting CDV's Founder and Executive Director, Hilda Pacheco-Taylor, and discovering that she grew up in an orphanage herself, I was fully invested. Having worked and consulted with many grassroots nonprofit organizations over the last 25 years, CDV stands out to me as one that consistently lives within their mission and values, practicing every aspect of the organization with utmost integrity. This organization is truly changing lives on a daily basis, and I am honored to be a part of it.

This organization is not only life changing but it's life saving! I have seen this transformation first hand with young children who have come off the dangerous streets of Tijuana and into the safety of a Corazon de Vida supported home.

Once these kids start to feel safe and cared for in the homes, not having to worry or stress about their next meal, safety or shelter, they begin to thrive. Once the children are thriving, then they're in a position to start dreaming with hope for their futures.

This organization goes way beyond food, shelter, medical and psychological care for the kids, they actually help them to achieve their dreams. So far, Corazon de Vida has provided over 100 University scholarships to the young adults who age out of the orphanages, many who are now working successfully in their chosen professions.

This organization truly lives out their mission of ending the vicious cycle of poverty and child abandonment. Corazon de Vida has transformed thousands of lives since 1994! If you are considering a charity to donate to, Corazon de Vida is very fiscally responsible with a low administrative overhead which all ensures your donation will go as far as it can to help build lives and futures for these deserving children!

Amazing organization focused on supporting the abandoned children of Baja California for 26+ years. The heart and mission of the organization is focused on the children, their futures and the orphanages where they live. As a board member, I've had access to the financials of the organization and have always been very impressed with how little is spent on overhead which maximizes the amount of support the children and homes receive. The leadership and staff are as good as they come. Their humility, strong work ethic and singular focus are all a part of what makes this a truly Great Nonprofit worthy of your support.

Corazon de Vida is a blessing for the children of Baja that are left without a family and a home of their own. They create a loving home where each child or each angelito can thrive. They provide shelter, food, clothing, safety, cleanliness, attention, tutors, educational resources, and most of all a feeling of belonging to every child. It is truly an honor to be a small part of what Corazon de Vida provides to the Baja community and to its children. I encourage you to get involve and visit the orphanages yourself. One gets more from the experience than one can possibly give.

I was introduced to Corazon de Vida through a friend that spoke of the joy and peace he received serving in the CdV ministry to the foster children in Mexico. I was looking for a meaningful way to serve the poor of our community and through CdV I found a grass roots organization that has a passion to serve the children of Mexico in love through spending time with them, in treasure by providing assistance to improve the quality of their housing and providing for their future through college scholarships with personal connection and encouragement thru their college years.

We are all called to serve those with less and what greater gift than to serve children who by no fault of their own have a much more challenging start to their lives than we could ever imagine. I have found a great facilitator to link arms with and serve the fostered children of Mexico and will forever be encouraged and encourage others to join with us to serve the poor. May God continue to bless Corazon de Vida.

I was first aquainted with Casa Hogar-Buena Vista through a friend who, having visited to interview a student for possible scholarship through Corazon De Vida, saw that much maintenance was needed at that home. I submitted and we made a trip down to investigate. I was hooked immediately; the children needs, the conditions which we knew we could improve, the efforts and lifetime commitment of the family running the home. I knew I wanted to be a part of helping them. Now several trips later having repaired bathrooms, faucets, drawers, doors, decks, and much more we see that with a little time and effort we take back with us a feeling of hope for them and a sense of Gods blessing for us all that almost seems unfair for us to receive. We will continue to return and help as we can as our relationship grows with the girls and family members. Oh and we our now proudly sponsering; through Corazon De Vida, one of the homes own as she begins her University study- the future is very exciting!

I have been so incredibly fortunate to discover Corazon de Vida Foundation. It took one volunteer trip six years ago with CDV to spend the day with orphaned and abandoned children in Baja California, to know I wanted to be a part of this wonderful non-profit. Since then I have come a board member for the San Diego Chapter of the CDV foundation and have witnessed and helped to support the work providing a life and a future for over 500 children (ranging from babies to sometimes adults). I am most proud of the creation of the University program that sustains young adults in the orphanages through college if they commit to follow through the programs. Its been wonderful to work alongside a team of impassioned individuals and volunteers working toward the same beautiful cause, directed by selfless hard-working leaders.

Corazón de vida helped me be a better person. I was in an orphanage due to drugs and a disfuncional family. During my stay in the orphanage they motivated me to work on myself and achieve the best version of me. They covered my school expenses and even after completing my stay in the orphanage they maintained contact with me, covered my university expenses during my entire career. I will be forever thankful because even when I felt I had lost it all they showed me that the worst war is the one we don’t fight. I had the great pleasure and privilege of working for Corazon de Vida for 3.5 years as the Admin & Events Manager. Although there are many grassroots nonprofits out there, you would be hard-pressed to find an organization that works as hard at fulfilling its mission as CDV does. The staff and volunteers give their all to support the orphaned and abandoned children of Northern Baja under the leadership of Hilda Pacheco-Taylor, founder and former resident of one of the homes supported. Her story is compelling and the dedication of staff, infectious. The CDV family is a very small but also, very mighty group of the best sort of people. I was lucky enough to intern at Corazon de Vida as a community manager. While there, I learned how too many children suffer from abuse, neglect, and abandonment, therefore, end up living in the streets in dangerous situations. Unfortunately, it is a worldwide issue, but specifically in Mexico, many of these children are not helped due to the lack of resources. Luckily amazing organizations like Corazon de Vida step up to help support orphanages that care for these children and provide for them. Learning all this information was an eye-opening experience that I will be sharing with as many people as I can because I feel many people may not know about these circumstances.
As an intern, I shared this information and updates on the children in the orphanages on one of the organization's social platforms to let CDV supporters know how their contributions significantly impact these children's lives. My internship experience was amazing, and I am grateful I could be a part of this organization with such a beautiful mission. I highly encourage others wanted to make a positive impact in the community to support this organization - there are so many different ways to contribute.

I have so much gratitude and respect for this amazing organization and all that they do. Corazon De Vida is wholeheartedly dedicated to changing lives and making vast improvements in the everyday lives of the kids that they support. I loved everything about volunteering with this group from start to finish. They make it so easy to help make a difference. They are committed to operating with integrity and it shows! From the pick up, to crossing the border, and arriving at the orphanage, I couldn't have been more comfortable in knowing I was in good hands. I loved George, hearing his story, and hearing in depth about Corazon De Vida and all that they do. Once we arrived at the orphanage, it was nothing but fun, love, and smiles. All the kids want you to do is to spend time with them. We played soccer, painted pictures, and played hide and seek. I loved helping to make and share a meal with the kids and really got to see what a day in the life of living there is like and I have no doubt that what Corazon De Vida does helps to enhance that in many ways. I will definitely be going back many times in the future. These kids have a piece of my heart! And I am very thankful for what Corazon De Vida is all about and for all that they do! I cannot recommend them enough! Go! You'll be glad you did!

I had my first orphanage trip with CDV in October 2019 and I am absolutely awestruck of the incredible, heartwarming work that CDV is doing with the orphanages in Baja. To hear the trials and tribulations that each of these kids have had to go through at such early stages in their lives really tugs at the heart strings, but it is thanks to CDV that these kids have hope. They are well taken care of, they are afforded a chance at private education and you can feel the sense of family that the directors provide. I became a Heart Angel in a heartbeat and I can't wait to spread the word about this amazing nonprofit.

In September, it will be seven years since my first trip to the orphanage. I bonded with the children at a particular house and ever since then, I have made every effort to go on the trips when CDV visits that home. The children are happy and well cared for. The facilities are safe. There is a strong focus on education and I've been able to see kids grow up and start careers. The fact that many of them want to go back and support the homes they came from is a testament to their positive experience living there.

The monthly trips are well-organized, safe and the best way to see how your donation is put to use.

The trip I went on this past Saturday with the American Red Cross Club at UCI was absolutely phenomenal. George and Omair were both experienced and amiable trip leaders -- there was never a moment of disarray! I thoroughly enjoyed playing with the ebullient children at the orphanage and gaining insight into their lives. Overall, it was nothing short of an eye-opening experience, one that I would recommend to every individual interested in bettering the lives of the underprivileged. Needless to say, I'm eagerly anticipating next year's trip!

From the past two trips I've attended with Corazon de Vida, I have truly loved everything about it. I got to meet the kids and hear their stories, and learn more about how Corazon de Vida works so hard towards providing them a safe and loving home and their mission to break the cycle of child abandonment through education. I truly enjoyed playing with the kids and being able to give them a day of fun for them. The trip was safe, eye-opening, and I plan on attending again in the future.

I've been on two orphanage trips with the American Red Cross Club at UCI, and each trip has just been an incredible impact on my life. The amazing work that Corazon de Vida is doing with these kids, from providing everyday things that we take for granted such as food, toiletries, and clothes, to a forever home and even access to higher education is absolutely irreplaceable and a privilege to see even once a year. The kids are always willing to play and have fun, and all the adults, from tour guides to the amazing staff working at each home are incredibly nice and kind. I have no words for how their work impacts these kids in a positive way. Every time I go on a CDV trip, I always realize how I take things for granted and it really opens my eyes to the amazing life I live and what we all can do to help others in need. I sincerely thank Corazon de Vida for allowing me to be a part of their amazing work. I can't wait to sign up next year!!

Last year, I attended a trip with the American Red Cross Club at UCI to visit one of the many orphanages that this foundation assists. Our club in particular is dedicated to fundraising all year long to be able to donate to this cause. To be able to see how happy these children are in these special spaces they can call home is so special and rewarding. This was one of those experiences where you can put life into perspective and recognize the privilege we have, and how easy it is to give back to others. Every trip humbles you and shows you just how important your contributions towards the foundation are. The kids are full of energy and are extremely well behaved. The kids even performed dances for our visit. It was very humbling to see how the children lived but I am grateful that they have the opportunity to stay in these homes. Hello to All! Corazon De Vida is an amazing organization. I have been on 3 trips and have sponsored on a monthly basis and Corazon De Vida truly exceeds my expectations. I truly believe that this organization speaks and acts on their mission. Education is key for kids and families to stop the vicious cycle of poverty. These kids are being taught how to be self sufficient and not to accept that poverty is a permanent situation. Each of them are being taught how to get themselves out of it through teamwork, commitment and love. I am a true believer of Corazon De Vida. Thank you to Hilda Pacheco-Taylor and her team dedicated themselves to the children. A true labor of love.

I’ve been involved with Corazon de Vida for many years. This non profit is one that encourages it’s donors to visit the orphanages to see first hand the need for funds and to substantiate exactly where and how the funds are distributed. They are most enthusiastic to arrange private tours for your company, school, church or any organization that is looking for a top rated foundation to support. All of the research shows the the true path to happiness is through giving to others. Do yourself a favor and go volunteer for a day with the children that Corazon de Vida Foundation supports at one of their orphanages. Children here are supported in ways that enable them to break the cycle of poverty by giving children education, care, support and love. Visiting with these children uplifts their day, but it will change your life. You will gain perspective, seek new opportunities to grow, and want to help others in ways you never considered. Corazon de Vida's work supports these children and the future of children to come and all of the lives you may now touch in whole new ways because of the good work they do. I can't say enough good things about what they do.

Today I got to visit multiple orphanages with the Director of Corazon De Vida...the best organization I’ve seen that does what they say they do, and then some. The way these kids loved on George and bragged to him about their progress at school, the cleanliness and resources at all of the facilities, the loving staff, the returning children now teaching younger kids, I can go on and on. These kids have been rejected, abused, abandoned and because of this they come with many complications (rightfully so) that very few want to deal with. But the heroes I got to see in action today are willing to love these kids beyond their struggles and love them through their pain and see destiny in their eyes. they’re raising future doctors, lawyers, accountants, teachers. I was there for only a day and was changed for life. I’m so in love and can’t wait to go back and spend more time and pour into all my new kids. You would be amazed at how very little it takes to make such a huge Impact. Thank you Corazon De Vida for doing all that you do for these beautiful angels. We need more heroes like you. I couldn’t think of a better organization to align myself with.

My daughter had asked me a few months ago to join the Redondo group to one of the Corazon De Vida orphanages on March 31st. It was a real "feel good" day as the youngsters were starved for attention and whether it was playing soccer with the boys, playing games with the girls, reading to the younger children or pushing them on the swing you could feel the love from these children. My personal highlight was seeing some former residents who were now in college and/or graduating from college. There is so much need, and so little funding.

I was reluctant to volunteer my time and resources to a Foundation which supports Orphanages South of the border in Mexico. My natural concerns were that my donations would make it to those in need.

But after spending the entire day there on Saturday, I can say that it’s a decision I do not regret and I look forward to continuing my contributions and volunteering my time in the coming year.

The orphanage we visited was a well run compound where the kids were well tended. We were given a tour of the facility and I was impressed by how well organized and thought out everything is. These kids will be given a chance in life and they could use your support with any donations, gift cards, computer equipment, which will be well put to use and appreciated by all.

I encourage everyone to donate. This foundation an orphanage has been well vetted and it is a worthy cause.

I truly enjoyed spending the entire week at the orphanage. I was inspired by the hard work, cheerful attitudes, and loving care of the children exhibited by all of the staff. The children are happy, well cared for, friendly, and treat one another as family. In addition to spending time with the kids, I worked in the kitchen where 3 meals per day are prepared for approximately 80 people by 2 amazing ladies. They were so welcoming to invite me into their kitchen, and I learned so much from them. The organization and work ethic shown by the children during meals was excellent as they prepared the tables, served younger students, washed the dishes, and swept the floor at the end of each meal. I will definitely return to this place if possible not only to help, but also because of the inspiration it provides for a life of hope and kindness.

We felt very blessed to have this opportunity to visit the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City and have a mass there celebrated by Fr. Hartge. The tilma with the 500 year old image or Our Lady of Guadalupe and its inspiration to millions of Catholics everywhere made this pilgrimage memorable and helped deepen our faith.

Our later portion of the trip was to the orphanage Rancho de Los Niño’s near Ensenada. We were accompanied by our fellow pilgrims and about 9 others to spend time working to improve the orphanage and to offer love and attention to the many children. Included in our missionary group were Fr Hartge, Fr Klee, Sister Saima and Sister Lynnita who were a joy to be with and an inspiration of God’s servants. We found our time here peaceful, simple, filled with kindness for others and rewarding. We will cherish this blessed opportunity as we continue to grow in our faith and love for God.

Having observed the work done in a house in Tijuana, as a public health scientist, I can state the fact that they have a formula in raising the children with a strong foundation. Needs assessment is done with a psychologist; they are provided their food, shelter and basic needs; above all, there's an emphasis in education.

Just an excerpt of my dialogue with a coworker:

Co-worker: These kids are so beautiful! You made it out alive, sure, but didn't one of them steal your heart?

Me: Why must you ask such difficult rhetorical questions?

Co-worker: Didn't you want to bring at least one back.

Me: *Nostalgic smile.* I did. Yes, I did. But that would be called kidnapping.

Corazon de Vida has been instrumental in developing a hearing healthcare program for the orphanages in Baja, Mexico. I have gone on two trips to help with this endeavor, and George (from CDV) has been extremely helpful both times...coordinating which orphanages to visit, translating for us, driving us from one place to another, making sure proper follow-up care is happening...he does his best to help with it all!! I appreciate the infrastructure this organization provides so that we can check hearing and provide help if/when needed. Since so many of the logistics and details are already worked out, we can have that much more of an impact on the lives of these children!

This is an organization the provides and brings people together to help our most vulnerable...the children. The trips are very organized and helps to some people that have never been to Tijuana do it in a safe and group like environment but for me that I have volunteered with several other organization, the opportunity to do more. I'm so grateful that this non-profit exists and I'm looking forward to getting even more involved with them.

My last trip to HACIENDA ORPHANAGE in Tijuana was such a joyful experience! The children ran to our bus and the smiles on their faces were warming to my heart. Many people I have spoken to about my trip had the perception that it would be heart breaking for them because of the poverty, uncleanliness and poor living environments. HOW VERY WRONG THEY WERE WITH THAT PERCEPTION! I have worked as a developmental specialist for the Regional Centers in California with children for over 20 years and have been to a variety of socio-economical environments and homes. The standard of living in these orphanages BY FAR are full of love and care. You can tell by the smiles and behavior of the children. These children are so fortunate to have the support of all the volunteers and donors from Corazon de Vida. I am committed to returning each month to offer my support and love.

The caregivers are tireless and the kids are joyful and excelling academically. Definitely attend and donate, but if you are unable to attend--spread the word and help! We can all help and aid the future of these kids...they need us.

Corazon De Vida is a true, genuine non-profit organization making a difference in hundreds of kids lives. They are fulling their mission in more ways then one by providing supplies, foods, needs and just showing up to spend time with the kids and comfort them with love. Right before your eyes you can see the same children "paying it forward" with love to the new and younger children that enter the orphanages. Beautiful experience!

I spent hours researching local volunteer opportunities, before I honed in on Corazon de Vida. I registered online to join an orphanage trip, not really knowing what to expect, though I read rave reviews of the organization and the trips as a whole.

I expected the trip to be worthwhile, eye opening, and a great experience, but I didn’t expect it to be lifechanging. This organization and the work they do profoundly opened my eyes.

Corazon de Vida is run efficiently, with the children's best interests being of the utmost importance. It is wonderful knowing the children aren't merely provided for until they become adults, but they are supported and encouraged to seek higher education and given the tools to break the cycle.

Corazon de Vida is truly an endearing cause worth supporting.

Love his organization! The trips to the orphanages are life altering experiences. Also to see where your donation dollars are actually going and know that the majority of those dollars actually go to assist the kids and not the bureaucracy is so satisfying. Best part - seeing the faces of the children, watching them grow as you return each new trip and knowing you are part of transforming their lives.

The perfect sized organization.... big enough to make a substantial impact but small enough to not be bureaucratic and make you feel like you are making an impact with your time and money. These people are passionate about their mission from the founder down.

I have visited the orphanage kids in Mexico several times with CDV and can honestly say that these young peoples lives are positively impacted because of the awesome work CDV does.

Hi
I joined them about a year ago with my friends.
Actually at that time, I was studying abroad from Japan, and it was my very first time to do volunteer.
When I finished one day trip to orphanage, I was wondering whether it was good for us to visit for such a short time and leave children there. But I found out that it is important to let them know that how much people are worried about them.
Since I can't speak English, so it was also my problem but children welcomed me and we really enjoyed withou any words.

We didn't know what to expect when we signed up for this trip and we were blown away by how incredible the day was. My 12 year old daughter and I were especially moved by how completely different the Mexican infrastructure is from ours... and within feet of each other. George was a fantastic leader - he made everything easy. But the best part by far was the time we spent with the kids - they were so happy to be with us, just playing on the playground, kicking around the soccer ball, painting our nails, making bracelets, eating lunch or dancing together - there was something for everyone. And the language barrier was practically non-existent because everyone knows how to communicate when you want to share and have fun. We can't wait to go on our next trip... and the next... and the next! Thanks, George and Corazon de Vida!

My daughter and I had our first experience with the Corazon De Vida Foundation last Saturday. I say first because there will be several more. My daughter (8) was excited to help, excited to learn, and especially excited to meet the children. My expectations and her excitement far superseded anything I could have imagined. She had such a wonderful time helping prepare lunch and touring the facility and when she finally got to meet the children, she was so thrilled that even thought her spanish is slim to none, she was able to communicate with the kids. She made several friends and they played and played. I was amazed at the joy that was shared with everyone there that day. The Door of Faith orphanage is so amazingly run by a loving couple that all orphanages should be modeled after this one. We had a great day and my daughter has already told me that for her birthday she would like to unwrap one present and take the rest to these children. I just about melted and knew immediately that my child shows altruism at the young age of 8! I am a proud mother and Corazon De Vida will be in our lives for years to come.

My 16 year old son and I went to The Hacienda Orphanage a week ago. It's hard to put words to an experience that touches your heart as deeply as this day did for me. It was my son's idea and CDV made the visit possible and simple. The bus arrived in San Diego as scheduled, we got through customs lickety-split, and the time with the children was life changing. I was worried about communication as I do not speak any Spanish at all but there were plenty of folks on the tour that were able to help me if needed. What I discovered however, is that hugs and smiles are part of the universal language of love and that is all I really needed to take with me. I will definitely be going again!

I participated with a trip to an orphanage with CDV for the first time recently, and I can't wait to go back. If you ever doubted that your volunteering help is appreciated, this is most certainly NOT the case here. The response from the kids is truly moving. The experience for me was truly unforgettable.

These kids' experiences are undoubtedly beyond the scope of what most of us can imagine, and yet they are happy and smiley. Corazon de Vida has enabled these kids to not only get a home where they are loved and cared for, but has also assisted many of them to attend university. During our visit we met a 17-year old girl who will be going off to college to become a veterinarian.

I strongly urge you to volunteer and support this group.

This is an organization that really makes a difference. Incredibly low overhead so you know almost every dollar you donate goes to the cause. The orphanages in Mexico are all private homes that get no government support yet the government sets the standards for care and has the right to shut them down. Without Corazon de Vida, these kids would have no where to go. The organization provides donors with the opportunity to visit a home every month, visit with the children -- so many who just want to be held or hold a hand. A visit will change your perspective and will make such a difference to several children.

I've been visiting orphanages with Corazon de Vida for over 8 years now and every time I go I am blown away by the difference CDV is making in this lives of these orphans. 42 are now enrolled in college! This is how the world is changed--by people and organizations who make the next generation, no matter their circumstances, feel heard and seen and loved. CDV provides them with the tools--food, shelter, schooling, medical care--as well as making each child feel like he/she has value and a purpose and can dream big because the people from CDV will be by his/her side, cheering loudly.

I've also never met anyone who works as hard or is as devoted to those kids as George Perez. I highly recommend this nonprofit.

Great non-profit organization. I went on my first trip to the orphanage August 2014,and it's safe to say it's not my last... I already signed up for the September trip :)

Coming from LA, I had to meet the bus at 5:30 am. Parking is free and is not a hassle Don't worry about breakfast because the bus will stop by a Mexican restaurant and a Starbucks after we pick up the Orange Country group of people.

We arrive at the orphanage at about 10 am and it's all fun and games from there on out. The children get so excited to finally see visitors and are ready to play! (one advice is to make sure you wear shoes if you plan to play soccer or basketball with the kids). With all that these kids go through, to see their joyful/child-like spirits is a huge inspiration and I loved spending time with them. It's something you definitely need to experience because my words don't do it justice. You arrive back in Los Angeles around 6:30pm to 7pm.

One concern I've heard from friends I tried to push to come on the next trip with me is the "Safety of the trip." CDV is so professionally run and have been doing this for YEARS! The trip ran so smoothly it almost didn't feel like we were crossing the border. Safety is NOT AN ISSUE, and definitely nothing you should be worried about! CDV takes care of everything from transportation to food to the games and activities you will play with the kid. All you have to do is show-up, bring some donations, and willing to participate and show these kids a good time :)

Please do yourself a favor and sign-up for at least one trip. I can guarantee you will be hooked and will make a point to come back often!

I’ve been a volunteer with other organizations locally and throughout the world but I must say that the work that Corazon de Vida does with all of the children in the orphanages in Baja, Mexico is truly amazing. CDV provides assistance to hundreds of children for food, housing, education, etc.. I’ve been involved with a couple fundraising events to assist their cause with these beautiful ninos and I know that they squeeze almost every penny of it to go straight to the children. The board members and staff are a hard-working, compassionate group and give their life to these orphans. Over the last few years, I’ve made dozens of trips to the orphanages whether it was CDV’s monthly bus trip or overnight trip to Casa de Paz and the Valle de Guadalupe wine country. I go there to spend time with the children and try to bring some hope into their lives. Lo and behold, they always seem to give me joy and hope and bless my life every time I see them! It's truly a life changing experience and I would definitely recommend visiting one of the orphanages on one of the monthly bus trips and see what the meaning of life is really about! My trips to the orphanages in Tijuana have been incredible. I began volunteering and funding this organization as soon as I understood that not only do they help to feed, house and keep the children healthy, they educate the children. There are currently 40+ children going to college. Education is key to changing the lives of these children as well as the future of their country. Everyone that is involved with Corazon de Vida as well as everyone who works in the orphanages and the children have changed my life and they way I think about it. These trips bring one's perspective back to what is important.
If you have the chance, take a trip just south of the border and see the smiles on everyone's faces when you get off the bus. You will not be disappointed and you will return.

They truly love the orphans they help and are dedicated to them and them alone. The founder was herself an orphan and is now making a huge difference in the lives of these orphans. The children are not given any monetary help from their government. It's all left up to volunteers and donations. I've seen first-hand how much the children love their caretakers and all of the board members, and yet they're still willing to give huge hugs to the volunteers that visit. Writing this review makes me remember these wonderful children who are so quickly to smile and welcome you into their home. Don't hesitate to visit any one of these orphanages in Tijuana. The trip to Casa Hogar Sion has been the most rewarding and memorable volunteer experience for me thus far, because I was able to see first hand who the beneficiaries of the non-profit were, which oftentimes is a rarity in the non-profit sector.

Even with just four years of Spanish under my belt, I truly connected with children who are outnumbered by a mere handful of guardians and clearly in need for affection--even if for one afternoon.

Truly life changing! Recently, I took the first step in responding to an inner calling that I have been holding in my heart for quite some time now; namely, to give of myself more fully to the serving of the poor, abandoned, and vulnerable children in society. I have researched and contributed financially to a number of different organizations in the past. However, the Corazon de Vida Foundation (CDV) offered me something truly unique something more tangible: the opportunity to visit first-hand the very children and the orphanages that CDV volunteers and financial donors are working to support.

Last week I was privileged to be able to spend the day in Tijuana visiting the La Hacienda de la Inmaculada orphanage and its 62 children (16 of them under the age of 3) and the staff that care for them with a group of like-minded CDV volunteers. This was one of the monthly trips that Corazon de Vida organizes for volunteers to visit the orphanages that they serve. We were welcomed at the doors of the orphanage with open arms and smiles by both staff and children. The love and compassion that I felt for the children at La Hacienda was only surpassed by the outpouring of the joy and love that was showered upon me by the very children that I had come to serve. The simple acts of sharing a game of soccer, playing a game of cards, having a 4 year child take your hand and lead you out to the playground, acting silly while dancing, or having a toddler fall asleep in your arms; these were the highlights of the trip for me. These simple human interactions are what mattered most on this day and are what the children seemed to relish.

Finally, I was so impressed by the compassion and personal connection that our leader, and CDV Board Member, had with the children and the staff. He knew the children’s individual, personal stories and shared with us how CDV, through the orphanages that they support, were providing hope, stability, basic needs, safety and love to these children. He really seemed to personify the values and beliefs of CDV’s founder and be the ideal ambassador for this organization. His passion for the cause is contagious!

I was first made aware about Corazon de Vida over 5 years ago through word of mouth within my alumni club - University of Notre Dame. I had expressed interest on volunteering with an organization that helps children. The 1st visit still resonates with me. I didn't know what to expect and didn't know much about the organization and its impact it has on the orphaned children of Baja. What makes this non profit so unique is that it's founder was in the exact same situation as these children that it helps. She also grew up in one of the orphanages in Baja. Her success and generosity in creating an organization to help other children growing up the way she did is a positive reminder to the children it helps that there is hope and there are people that care for them. Today I'm not just a volunteer, I'm also a donor and enjoy doing what I can to raise money for CDV. The fact that such a small org can help over 720 kids is amazing. I love the kids as if they were my own. In fact my son was named like one of the kids we love visiting. He knows that too so when my son visits, big Diego takes my little Diego by the hand and in my heart they are brothers. All children are blessings from God and all deserve the best in life. CDV is doing what they can to give them a better life. Spread the message on what they do so that so that more children can realize their dreams too

This is a very effective organization providing the necessities of life for hundreds of orphans across northern Baja Mexico. Corazon de Vida support includes food, utilities, medical missions, as well as, educational expenses for primary and college age young people who would not be able to gain essential skills for making a living later in life. Corazon de Vida provides a unique contribution to destitute children living in orphanages in northern Baja California through financial contributions from volunteers. These resources go to the orphanages to help pay for food, shelter, utilities, and school supplies. The goal is to provide the basic minimum that indigent children need to survive. In addition to basic support, CDV provides special needs assistance in the form of scholarships to children who continue with their education beyond high school. Also provided are regularly scheduled medical, eye care, and dental missions, and material support for building maintenance, kitchen and laundry equipment, and vehicles for school transportation.

Another important aspect of CDV's contribution to the lives of the children has been to provide a reliable means for ongoing visits of scores of volunteers who visit orphanages month after month, year after year. For many of the children served by CDV this is a primary opportunity for interaction with adults. I believe the importance of these visits and the certainty in the minds of the children that they will continue is an an invaluable contribution of the organization. I am grateful that Corazon de Vida has made it possible for me to participate in this exceptional effort.

Spending the whole day at the orphanage was truly a grounding and a life changing experience. You give the kids the attention that they sorely need by simply playing with them, helping them do arts and crafts and at the same time you'll be giving the staff a much needed break by volunteering in the kitchen. Nowadays, I pray for more opportunities like this because I would surely love to go back and hopefully make a difference in these kids' life.

I went on a Corazon trip to Tijuana to visit and orphanage and I will never forget it. These kids have nothing. It is so rewarding to visit with them and help them out. I strongly encourage taking a trip. The money and goods you donate go directly to the orphanage. Mexico does not provide any government support so these types of orphanages are the only place where abandoned children can be taken care of. In some cases they were found living under cars or in abandoned shacks. I would like to go back. Here's the newspaper story I wrote about it: http://www.ocregister.com/travel/children-19014-perez-mother.html

Corazon de vida lets you play, share smiles, and interact with the children/ teenagers of the orphanages of Baja Mexico. To see the kids smile and laugh who have so little can impact your heart. One of the few organizations that impacts the lives of the kids across our border. By spending a day in Baja your life will be altered. A great way to spend the day hugging, giving piggy back rides, helping with art projects, playing soccer, chopping fruit (or other tasks to help with lunch), etc. You get to Baja with a nice air conditioned bus with like minded individuals. Lunch, which is usually pizza, is given to the volunteers and kids. You arrive back to your house before 7 pm.

Volunteering for Corazon de Vida is a WONDERFUL way to make a difference in the lives of so MANY babies, children & teenagers living in orphanages in (Tijuana/ Ensenada) Mexico. When you volunteer you are taken safely from a bus from LA/Irvine/San Diego. When you arrive you are greeted by smiles, hugs, and laughter from the kids/ teens. You interact, play, laugh, and eat with the kids. By doing crafts, playing, or helping to prepare or clean up after a meal you are helping the kids. An AMAZING organization!

I recently became involved with Corazon De Vida and can say that I am so happy I came across this organization. Driving to our "meeting location" that morning, I remember my stomach being in knots because I did not know what to expect, however, I calmed down the minute I got out of my car and was welcomed by such friendly faces. As the group waited for the bus and others to arrive, they shared their experiences with me and through their stories I could see how passionate they were. When we got to the orphanage, we literally spent the day with the kids. Getting to know them, playing games, coloring, painting, etc. It was pretty amazing to see how at the end of the four hours the kids were already asking when we would be back! That alone made it worth the trip. On the way back, I could not help but thank my lucky stars for the people I have in my life. If you are thinking of joining a group on one of the Corazon De Vida trips...stop thinking about it and just do it! You'd be surprised how much you get out of the experience and how much you learn from these kids!

Many other people have written good things about Corazon de Vida, and how much it helps the orphans. I agree completely, but rather than repeat all of that, I will focus on four things you might want to know if you are thinking about going on one of the trips:

1. First, the trips are in a big, comfortable bus with reclining seats and a restroom. We aren't packed into little vans.

2. Second, the children are not pathetic. Before my first trip, I was afraid that the children would be hungry, dirty, sad and sick. Actually, the children are generally clean, healthy, bright and cheerful - and very friendly. Many of the children are very successful in their schools. They are a hard working, motivated group of students.

3. As to what we do when we arrive at the orphanages, the short answer is, "have fun." We don't paint the walls or repair anything or build anything. We play card games, do arts-and-craft projects with the children, kick soccer balls around with them, read books to them and carry the little ones around on our shoulders. And, of course, we eat a delicious pizza lunch with the children.

4. Finally, there is the big issue that is on the minds of everyone who has never gone on the trips before: Is it safe? The answer: YES! There are trips every month. There is never any violence. We never feel that we are in any danger. This is not a worry for people who have gone on the trips before.

One advantage of going on the trips is that you will see what is really happening such a short distance south of us. I can tell you here that Tijuana is a big place with a lot of normal activities, but you won't really get the idea from my words. And you certainly won't get the real picture just by visiting Avenida Revolución. Traveling though the different neighborhoods to get to the orphanages, you get a much better feel for what's really going on.

So, that's all that I will write here. I have gone on the orphanage trips with Corazon de Vida almost every month for the past two years. I agree with all of the other reviews about Corazon de Vida being amazing, awesome, and all that. I wrote more in a note on Facebook, at https://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=2733138975635

CDV is an awesome program. A lot of times people donate money or items and call it a day. By bringing people to TJ, it brings a whole new perspective on things.

I was happy to hang out with the kids for the day. We played games, read, and served food for them. It is something I encouraged all my friends to do.

I was surprise that the day for over so quick. After getting to know some of the kids there we had to leave.

There are many things that a person can experience when volunteering. Mostly, there is a sense of fulfillment from knowing that you have just made a difference even if in the smallest way. Of all the volunteer work I have ever done I would have to say that going to an orphanage with Corazon de Vida was an experience that I will never forget. I remember a little girl that followed me everywhere I went and she seemed sad so I spent time one-on-one with her and I taught her to make an origami flower- she was so happy to learn something new. What I love about this organization is that you do not have to have a specific skill, or knowledge, degree, money (just enough for the bus trip) in order to make a difference both for the children and even yourself.

Being a volunteer has been a rewarding experience for me. CDV is helping children everyday by providing the basic needs, food, shelter obtaining an education and more importantly giving them a safe, positive secure home. I would recommend, that if you have an opportunity to visit one of the many orphanages to do so. The children are so loving their smiles and embraces will truly melt your heart!

At Corazon de Vida you can't find enough opportunities to give. Whether it be giving love, joy, financial assistance or kindness you give the best of yourself. Be a giver... you can sponsor a young girl in celebration of her quincinera, or take part in career day or set-up a birthday plege page. One of my favorites is the holiday plege page. I can assure you that however you choose to be part of this experience you will reap the rewards of knowing you have made a difference in a child's life.

Being a part of the CDV family has truly touched my heart.

Corazon de Vida is a wonderful organization that goes to great lengths to help the orphanages of baja california stay afloat. What I love about Corazon de Vida is that , I have seen first hand, what they invest their donations on: food, basic toiletries, and access to a fair and quality education. Moreover, I have had the opportunity to particiate in a couple of the visits that they regularly organize and these visits have made an impact in my life. Spending time with the children and learning about their life and their dreams only fuels my drive to continue visiting the children and suporting them in their dreams. I have established a friendship with one of the young girls I met during one of my trips and I am committed to being her mentor and supporter throughout her life. I am forever grateful for the opportunity to establish and friendship with her and meeting and interacting with the children is a lot more rewarding than any contribution I could make to them or to CDV.

Mexico doesn't have a foster care system to support children in need or a welfare system to help families unable to provide for their children. Thus, the only way to support families and children in need is through a network of orphanages, which is where Corazon de Vida comes in. It has been operating since 1994 and now serves 14 orphanages in Tijuana. The great thing about CDV is not just delivering supplies or the wonderful day-trips to the orphanages etc, but ultimately empowering these children to move onward and upward. I've been fundraising and volunteering with CDV for over 6 years now. Bitsie Tulloch

I have done 12 mission trips to orphanages in Tijuana and 2 to Casa de Paz in Ensenada with other mission groups. have seen the need and know the amazing work Corazon de Vida is doing. They change children's lives and give these wonderful kids real hope. Our donations have an immediate positive impact on "our" kids. My wife and I now make a donation every quarter and Corazon de Vida is a named recipient in our wills. Go, Give and it will change your life.

I discovered Corazon de Vida about 4 years ago while participating in a seminar project. I wanted to experience and contribute to Tijuana orphanages in a fun & safe way- CDV is it !!!

The first step for me was to go on an organized bus trip to one of the homes that CDV sponsors- there are about 15 located throughout Baja California & Tijuana.

The home that captured my heart is Hacienda. It is run by Madre Virginia- who reminds me of Mother Theresa. The kids are smiling and happy. We spent the day with the kids, playing with them in the big playground, having lunch with them and reading to them and helping them with artwork projects and drawings.

I will always remember one day in particular. I was sitting with a young girl who was drawing on a napkin. She took crayons and was drawing lots of hearts and flowers. When she was finished- she handed me the napkin as a gift. I was so moved that I almost started crying. Here was a girl who was so generous and loving in spite of her circumstances- I was so inspired that I wanted to do more.

We are child sponsors and I am in the initial phase of creating a Card Project with CDV. My goal is to create artwork with the Kids for cards and calendars for fundraising for this dedicated and beautiful organization.

For the past seven years I've had the blessing of being a part of the Corazon De Vida family. The children I have met are beautiful people. I look forward to my monthly visits to see and spend some time with them at the El Faro orphanage (one of the 14 orphanages that CDV helps). A day of coloring, piggy back rides and conversations is always enlightening and inspirational. I learn so much from these children.

CDV is constantly evolving to find new ways to better the lives of these orphan children in Mexico. Showing them with interaction and great love that there are so many future opportunities available to them and people to help them achieve dreams.

I have been volunteering with Corazon de Vida for the past 7 1/2 years. It has become a significant part of my life and I have been forever changed by the children I have met.

I have had the pleasure of visiting 8 of the 14 homes this organization supports. They are all doing wonderful things for the orphaned children who live there however my most favorite home is Hacienda.

I love this organization because they remember the children who have been long forgotten and they are giving a voice to the children who otherwise wouldn't have one. The children love our monthly bus trips and really look forward to our visits. Our visits consist of lunch, an arts & crafts project, books, and most importantly time spent with these children.

It is amazing to see how much of an impact you can have on someone else's life! If you don't believe me, join us on a trip and see for yourself!

I have been a part of Corazon de vida for over two years as a board member and over five years as a volunteer. Corazon de Vida is an inspiring non profit organization that financially supports the immediate and essential needs such as food, water, shelter, electricity and education to 14 orphanages in Baja, Mexico. It organizes volunteer day trips to visit these orphanages, giving volunteers a first hand look at the daily difficulties these homes face and the ever present need for help. More importantly, however, it gives orphans a day of desperately sought after love and attention and gives volunteers an experience they will never forget.

For those of you eager to contribute and be involved in the lives of those benefiting from your contributions, please consider Corazon de Vida, an organization that continuously strives to change the lives of orphans in Mexico.

I've gone on several volunteer trips to help Corazon de Vida with the orphanages of Tijuana and Baja California. The children are always warm, friendly, appreciative, and make your whole day.

The orphanage visits are well organized, safe, and are a really great way to help out those that are less fortunate financially, but have wonderful gifts of love and smiles that will stay with you and make it the best thing you do all month.

Corazon De Vida is a special organization that I hold very close to my heart. I have been volunteering the CDV since I was in college and have loved every minute of it. CDV is committed to their mission and encouraging of volunteers from all walks of life. Their staff is responsive and kind and the organization has done wonders for the children of Baja.

I was able to get involved as a volunteer in a way that created one of the greatest experiences of my life- I was able to help organize a function that gave back more than $5,000 to CDV. I will continue to volunteer with CDV as the inspire me and encourage me. I am proud to be a volunteer with CDV.

Corazón de Vida is an AMAZING organization. I have been a part of it now for about three years and I have completely fallen in love with it. I am a 16 year old, junior at corona del mar high school, and I first heard about Corazón de Vida through my church, OLQA. My mother and I decided to go on one of the trips to an orphanage initially for easy community service hours and quite frankly we were a bit intimidated by the idea of going into Tijuana, Mexico. However, once we arrived and began to play with the children (at the El Faro Orphanage) my mother and I fell in love with them. I not only gained an immediate passion for the children, but I acquired a need to help them. Driving back home on the bus that day made me realize how fortunate I am to have the life that I do, and I needed to give other people the chance to experience the same. When I got home, I began telling friends, family, and neighbors about this eye-opening experience I encountered and suggested that they donate and be a part of it as well. One of my friends took an immediate involvement and interest in Corazón de Vida, so we decided to start a club on campus (during our freshman year) to get more students involved and participating in this wonderful organization. To this day we have raised almost $10,000 for this foundation and continue to help out and raise money where we can. I have developed a unique connection to Corazón de Vida and I plan on always keeping it a part of my life and I know it will always be in my heart.

I've been involved with Corazon De Vida since 2007. I am very passionate about helping people who can't help themselves, especially children and I was saw this organization on volunteermatch.com, I signed up! and keep signing up when I can. I know there is so much more that I can do but in these last four years I just go visit the kids when I can, hang out, play, and just give them attention. My first trip there, we took the kids to a Chucky Cheese type place for the afternoon, they were soooo excited because those outings are far and few in between. They had a blast! When we were on the bus on the way back to the orphanage, a little boy was sitting down crying. We were asking him why but it was hard for him to stop crying to tell us. Finally, we understood him and he said that he missed his mom and his brothers and sisters. Needless to say, it broke my heart. I comforted him and I just talked to him about his family until he calmed down. Turns out he was new to the orphanage. I continue to go because I just want the children to know that people care about them, and that they are special and loved.

Working with Corazon de Vida has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life.
This foundation is truly committed to help kids in need providing the most basic needs: a home, food, clothes, and hope.

Besides donations, the kids love it when CDV volunteers come to visit them. The first time I went in one of these trips, I was amazed to see that the kids were more excited about getting a hug than getting gifts.
