Programs: Under pa act 89, the nonpublic school services division provides auxiliary services in 64 nonpublic schools in philadelphia. The services include educational services in math and reading, psychological services, speech and language services, and counseling/guidance services. In each of the disciplines students are assessed to determine appropriate goals and objectives to be accomplished. Students' goals are achieved through individual or small group sessions with pa certified staff. During fy17, this division provided a total of 40,000 services to 15,700 students, providing an opportunity for the entire student population to participate in one or more services. Special programs, such as the peer helper program, have been developed and implemented in several schools. In this program, students are trained to be mentors for their peers under the direction of cora counselors. The career development resource center provides career guidance for 7th and 8th grade students, with the goal of promoting career awareness and an opportunity for career exploration through hands on experience.
other school services: in fy17, cora provided related services to 2700 students in various charter and other schools located throughout philadelphia and surrounding areas. Related services include psycho-educational assessments, speech/language, occupational therapy, hearing services, and physical therapy. A total package of services which includes the specific services, clinical supervision, system consultation, and related support services are provided to the charter and other schools. Cora also provided personal care assistants (pcas) to 50 students in the chichester school district.
community services division (csd) provides an array of services including assessment, preventive counseling/case management programs, adolescent/adult substance use and mental health treatment and intervention services, crisis pregnancy, truancy prevention/ intervention and afterschool services. Clients include children, adolescents and families experiencing a wide range of behavioral issues, mental health and substance use/exposure concerns and family distress as well as those eligible for safe afterschool services. Of 2,035 clients served in fy17, 80% were under age 18, 4% were between ages 18-21; 77% ended service with positive success ratings. Most are served through csd innovative intervention services to mitigate issues that would likely require more expensive treatment if left unattended. Over 450 children benefitted from csd's dhs licensed after school programs in five community school locations. Activities include homework assistance, entrepreneurial programs, literacy enhancement and supervised recreation as well as specialized team building and youth development programs.
other program services include early intervention services and early years preschool and child care center. Cora provided early intervention services for children ages 3-5 years old. These services include special instruction, occupational therapy, and speech/language services to children with an individualized education plan. During the year, cora provided these services to 448 children. Cora's two early years preschool programs are located in the fox chase area and at lasalle university. Both programs are licensed by the commonwealth of pa and have been awarded pa keystone stars 4 credentialing, the highest level in the state. Programming involves an enriching curriculum which focuses on the cognitive, language/literacy, social, emotional and physical development of young children. During the year 175 children participated in these early years programs.
