This is Max, and the arms and blue shirt belong to Dwayne, my husband, and Max's person.
From the second Max saw Dwayne, it was love at first sight. Max stood calmly in front of Dwayne's chair, waiting patiently to be invited up, when he was, the look of contentment on Max's face was unmistakable. Even Dwayne felt the connection and the shift that happened to him in that second, it was amazing.
We, as a family, agreed to foster for Cooper's Companions, we limited ourselves to small dogs because we prefer larger breeds and thought it would be easier to remain a little detached, to be able to let them go when they found their forever home. We successfully foster one, but we failed with Max.
Max is now inseparable from Dwayne. Max sleeps under the covers between us and accompanies Dwayne on most outings. Max is officially Dwayne's emotional support dog.
Dwayne is an Army Veteran, that served in Desert Shield, and through his time in service, developed, unknown, undiagnosed, and untreated for the last 18 years since his discharge. The last few years have been a challenge as his PTSD hit an all-time high and was affecting his ability to function, causing severe depressive episodes. Max's arrival ended an episode, just like that.
Since that moment Max has been by Dwayne's side or in his lap, it has only been a few weeks, and already it is hard to remember life without Max.
This a great organization, Suzanne goes ABOVE AND BEYOND for the animals, fosters, and the adopters. I got my two babies from her, Rhett and Bo. I help whenever I can. Small organizations like this are what helps out many many animals and I think people don't realize how much one small group can do or does. If you can foster, adopt, donate, etc. PLEASE do so.
