Programs: 2016-2017 program summarycooking with kids (cwk) educates and empowers children and youth to make healthy food choices through hands-on learning with fresh, affordable foods from diverse cultural traditions. Cwks bilingual curriculum is aligned with common core state standards, and links classroom learning with school meals. 1,209 hands-on nutrition education classes with over 4,750 students in 14 schools. 68 lunchroom tastings in 12 schools, impacting over 5,400 students. An estimated 980 family volunteers in cooking classes. School lunchroom tastings and farmers' market stands. Hands-on cafeteria staff trainings. Recipe testing & development for school menu items. Local food day in santa fe public schools. Changes to school food purchasing policy, more local produce in school cafeterias. Cooking with kids is part of a larger state-wide network in new mexico through the usda snap-ed program, which includes the new mexico state university cooperative extension service, new mexico department of health, university of new mexico prevention research center, kids cook! , and las cruces public schools. Cooking with kids is involved in ongoing usda-funded research conducted by colorado state university, first in our programs in santa fe and now in several newly-established programs in colorado. Reserach-tested and nationally-acclaimed, cooking with kids curriculum is implemented by schools and organizations across the united states!
