Mission: Ctnc protects the blue ridge parkway, assists 22 local land trusts, and connects people to the outdoors.
Programs: Protecting the blue ridge parkway: the organization works with landowners, local land trusts, the national park service, and other agencies to conserve natural lands along the blue ridge parkway. We target our outreach efforts to owners of high priority properties as determined in our gis-based conservation plan, which factors in water quality, wildlife habitat, parkway visability, and development threat, to ensure that we devote limited resources to the most important properties. Activities include land owner outreach, stewardship, monitoring, and acquisition of land and conservation easements.
assisting local land trusts: the organization supports, promotes, and represents 22 local land trusts so that they can conserve more land in the communities they serve. The organization provides grants, makes bridge loans for land purchases, advocates for funding, tax incentives, and policies at the north carolina general assembly and before congress, publicizes land trusts through traditional and social media, and leads the land trust community by facilitating communication, collaboration, and innovation among the land trusts.
connecting people to nature: the organization works in several ways to connect more north carolinians with the outdoors. Ctnc's conservation and diversity program, north carolina youth conservation corps and americorps project connect people from all walks of life, particularly young people, to the outdoors. The programs improve participants' physical and mental health, help build the next generation of conservation leaders and supporters, and provide benefits to the broader public. The organization also sponsors and promotes hikes on protected properties, and supports local land trusts' efforts to bring more people onto their protected lands.
