Mission: Connecticut river watershed council, inc. Is a membership supported nonprofit conservation organization dealing with land and water related environmental issues in the four state drainage area of the connecticut river.
Programs: Supported by over 850 members, the connecticut river watershed council, inc. Conducts education, outreach, volunteer, and advocacy work to protect and enhance the 4-state 11,000 square mile watershed which begins at the canadian border and ends at the long island sound. Four river stewards as well as education and outreach staff work directly with public officials, citizens, and school children to implement the mission of the organization. The council conducts restoration projects, an annual watershed-wide clean-up day, and advocates for strong water quality standards and responsible development. The council was responsible for the creation of the silvio conte national wildlife refuge and the designation of the connecticut river as a national blueway as well as the nation's first national blueway in 2012.
