Mission: The conference on pacific american leadership (capal) is a 501(c)(3) charitable and educational organization dedicated to building leadership and public policy knowledge within the asian american, native hawaiian, and pacific islander (aanhpi) community. Its mission is to promote aanhpi interests and success in public service careers by increasing youth access to public service opportunities, to provide education on policy issues affecting the community, and serve the community at large.
Programs: Student scholarship and internship program. Capal's federal internship program places undergraduate and graduate students within the federal government primarily in the washington, d. C. Metro area. Opportunities in regional offices throughout the u. S. Are possible. Intern duties vary and may include policy or scientific research, project coordination and management, business, law, special events, communications, and more. Capal's public service scholarship program awards scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students who will be serving in unpaid public service internships (nonprofit or government) in the washington, d. C. Metro area.
washington leadership program (wlp). This opportunity for interns and young professionals to supplement their summer internship experience and learn about issues facing the aanhpi community, explore careers in public service, and share their stories. Sessions include panel discussions as well as skills-based simulations. Wlp has been the only educational and leadership development working series in washington that focuses specifically on the aanhpi community and the community's role in public policy.
professional development and cultural programming. Capal organizes regular professional development and cultural awareness programming throughout the year in the washington, dc metro area. Events are open to professionals from all sectors who have an interest in public service and/or the aanhpi community. These events generally occur on a monthly basis and include networking mixers, the annual aanhpi career fair, and the aanhpi roundtable series.
