Casper and his littermate, Tango, came into my life mid 2020 while I was going through a divorce. The two kitties are very affectionate towards me and each other, and provided incredible support for me. Unfortunately, one day this summer I came home from work and noticed Casper wasn't playing with the new toy I brought out. He was just acting wrong, and then started the most awful cry that I knew meant I needed to get him help. We immediately traveled to the closest emergency clinic, where they told me he was blocked. All of my savings went into that first unblocking and hospital stay, and a few days later I picked him up again and brought him home. He was SO attached to me! Within a few days though, he was acting wrong again. Tango was hovering around him like he also knew something was wrong. He wasn't making that heartwrenching noise anymore, but he was so lethargic in a way that I realized meant he might not make it through the night. I took him back to the emergency vet, where they told me he was blocked again and we had a very candid conversation. I didn't have the money, I couldn't afford the surgery he needed to make sure it didn't happen again, and there was a high likelyhood that if I just had him unblocked it would happen again within a week. The vet told me that if he couldn't get the surgery, she would recommend considering putting him down.I was devastated - he had just turned 3 years old, his brother was super bonded to him, and he was extremely affectionate and attached to me. I had promised him that I would fix it, but here I was having to think about the unthinkable. The vet then referred me to Compassion Animal Project, to see if I could put in an application.Any chance to help my baby Casper was something I would leap at. I gave the vet the rest I could squeeze together to buy time for the approval, and then reached out to this nonprofit. It's no exaggeration to say that Compassion Animal Project has been lifechanging for me, and lifesaving for Casper. I would have had to put him down or take out some major loans to try and help him. However, within only hours of putting in my application through a simple and straightforward process, I received a phone call telling me that our case had been accepted. Immediately Compassion Animal Project jumped in, Casper got his surgery, and though there was a stressful recovery period my little fighter could not have done better. All throughout, people from the Compassion Animal Project kept reaching out to me to check in and see how Casper was doing.I never could have kept my precious Casper with us without Compassion Animal Project's help. I can't thank them enough!

I met Rand Wachsstock in 1980 when we were neighbors going to graduate school in Champaign, Illinois. Struck immediately with his intelligence; learned over the years of his diligence. We stayed in touch.

Fast forward forty years. We were both at the ends of our careers. Spoke to each other often about the next step, about what we were to do with the rest of our lives.

He said he was going all-in on an entity to assist pet owners who cannot afford emergency veterinary care. Said there are about one million pets per year in the United States that are euthanized because of adverse economics. Said the owners/families are devastated, the vet hospital staff are devastated, and the veterinarians are devastated.

Thought that this project, the Compassion Animal Project (“CAP”), was something I wanted to be involved in if I could add to the effort. He had just the thing. I now volunteer as a research assistant for CAP; finding foundations and businesses with a history of charitable donations to the welfare of companion animals. Pets are part of the family; CAP keeps families together; brings me joy to be a small part of that.

As a passionate board member and crazy pet owner :), I know first hand how important our mission and impact at Compassion Animal Project is. We keep families together-- we impact, we have the ability and pleasure to protect the love, the livelihood, the togetherness of pets and their families.
I have never seen a more dedicated founder and team that lives their mission, is laser focused every single day on growing our reach, our impact, the number of families we keep together.

THIS is the change we want to see in the world happening in real time at CAP.

What greater cause than keeping families together during times of need. I love this organization- it’s mission, the impact it’s had on families in need when a pet falls ill, the ways it shows up and gives, supports, loves.

I encourage you to support, donate, apply if you are in need and more than anything, spread the word!

This is a great nonprofit. The people people who are apart of the project are so devoted amazing individuals. It has been an amazing experience learning about all the amazing work they do. Seeing families not have to give up their animals or more importantly not have to put them to sleep and get them the proper care they need really has touched our hearts. Being able to have met this nonprofit has been such a blessing! So amazing that our company can help the pet recover in Comfurt!

besides providing significant financial help to me and my pup, the organization followed up after the surgery to check-in on my pup's recovery. when the surgery ended up not being successful, the org leadership reached out to see if there were additional procedures or surgeries that might help address the issues we were having with cleo's mobility. extremely grateful for compassion animal project and the support we got from them!

I have been in veterinary medicine for over 40 years. The human-animal bond has never been stronger, the knowledge and ability to help pets with medical and surgical conditions has never been higher, and the need for support of people and their injured and ill pets has never been greater. The work of the Compassion Animal Project is truly essential in Society today. Giving the options of hope and cure instead of anguish and euthanasia is indeed a grand endeavor to be applauded and supported.
