Community Visions Unlimited or cvunola.org is my favorite nonprofit in New Orleans. They have done tremendous work eliminating blighted housing and helping to restore neighborhoods. My favorite is their Utility Art Box project that was started after Katrina. All the graffiti boxes you see on the mediums are enhanced by local artists. CVU started the project to help local artists (they receive a stipend and supplies for each box) and to work with the neighborhoods to create local artwork that represents the culture and history of the neighborhoods. CVU has done 190 boxes now and have expanded to include parishes. It is a wonderful project that brings beautiful artwork and hope to neighborhoods.
