Mission: Community support systems' mission is to help low- and moderate-income families and senior citizens access services; and to provide local programs that will raise the quality of life, dignity, and independence in the community. The board and the faithful community of volunteers work tirelessly to do one thing: improve the quality of life of the most vulnerable neighbors in southern prince george's and northern charles counties in md.
Programs: The food pantry program operates two food pantries which are open a total of three times per week. There is no charge for food distributed at the pantries or by grocery delivery to homes on individuals unable to attend the pantry, during the fiscal year 2015, hundreds of individual visits and grocery deliveries were made. In addition, css provided families with emergency boxes of food because of loss of jobs, medical problems, additional family members moving in, fires, or other unexpected situations.
the css advocacy program had hundreds of beneficiaries in fy 2015. Clients received a variety of services from help writing resumes, filling out energy assistance requests, obtaining school supplies for their children, working through difficult family situations, applying for photo id, keeping medical appointments, finding housing and meeting many more needs. Where limited financial help made the difference between an automobile that urns, has insurance, and current tags, the home that had heat, the rent or mortgage was paid, the baby-sitter paid, transportation to a new job was possible, shelter for the night, or many other needs, the css assistance fund helped scores of beneficiaries.
chapel house, the senior home for low or moderate income independent seniors provided a clean, comfortable, secure home during fy 2015. Rent was charged on sliding scale based on the individuals' income.
