Causes: Food, Meals on Wheels
Mission: Community services, inc. Of ocean county is a non-profit corporation providing nutritional andsocial support service programs for the elderly in their communities. These programs and services are provided in an effort to assist older adults in living as independently as possible in the environment of their choice.
Programs: Congregate nutrition program - each weekday a different hot lunch is served at ten locations. The lunch includes meat, fish or pasta, vegetables, bread, juice, fruit or dessert, milk, coffee or tea. All menus are approved by a qualified dietitian and are planned to provide at least one-third of the recommended daily dietary allowances set by the u. S. Department of agriculture. The congregate nutrition program is open to all persons who are 60 years of age or older or the spouse of a person over 60, and is designed to serve seniors in ocean county who do not eat properly for such reasons as: they cannot afford to do so; they lack the skills or facilities to select and prepare well-balanced meals; they have difficulty getting around to shop and cook for themselves; they have such feelings of loneliness and rejection that they have little desire to prepare and eat a nourishing meal alone. Each participant has the opportunity to make a donation toward the cost of the meal. There is no required payment, but a $2. 00 donation per meal is suggested. The method of payment is strictly confidential. All participant donations are put back into the congregate nutrition operating grant to help further the program.
meals on wheels - home delivered meals are available monday through friday to eligible individuals who are 60 years of age or older or the spouse of a person over 60. The recipient must be homebound, unable to prepare the mid-day meal and have no other person at his or her residence that can prepare the meal. Also, the recipient must be unable to participate at a congregate meal site. Each home delivered meal includes meat, fish or pasta, vegetables, bread, juice, fruit or dessert and milk. Csi employees and a dedicated corps of volunteers deliver meals to the homebound elderly. restricted social services - csi operates two outreach offices that service lakewood, jackson, plumsted, point pleasant and the non-dover township shore areas. Outreach services are available to all persons who are 60 years of age or older. Serices provided include: information and assistance - csi is a new jersey ease provider in cooperation with the ocean county office of senior services. Trained staff provide information, assistance and referrals regarding services and programs for older adults and their caregivers. ; benefits screening - trained staff visit frail, elderly clients in their homes to assist them with cumbersome paperwork and link them with agencies that provide additional services that they may need; transportaion - medical transportation is provided to the senior residents of lakewood, jackson, plumstead, point pleasant and the non-dover township shore areas. ; assisted transportation - outreach workers provide this service for seniors who require assistance due to frailty, language barriers, physical or mental impairment. ; volunteer friendly visitor and telephone reassurance services - provided by trained volunteers who are dedicated to helping those isolated who benefit from social contact. ; physical health - activities are provided at our ten nutrition sites and beehive senior center. ; language translation - spanish. ; education & social recreation - programs of interest to seniors are presented and discussed. Cards, games and other social activities are planned for you to enjoy.
'weekend and holiday meals for the elderly - many of csi's monday through friday home delivered meals clients have no other family or community support and cannot provide meals for themselves on weekends and holidays. These individuals receive meals year round. Because the demand for home delivered meal service increases each year, csi must carefully evaluate and review each case to ensure provision of services where the greatest need exists. Each weekend home delivered meals participant receives a cold breakfast and hot or cold lunch for saturday and sunday. All menus are provided by a qualified dietitian and are planned to provide at least one-third of the recommended daily dietary allowances set by the u. S. Department of agriculture. Holiday meal participants receive a box lunch meal. Special holiday meals are prepared and delivered for thanksgiving and christmas. Each participant has the opportunity to make a donation toward the cost of the meal. There is no required payment, but a $2. 00 donation per meal is suggested.
