Well, let me start by telling you that I was led to believe by these folks at C.H.W. that I could qualify for a down payment assistance program.
So I went to all the classes (money wasted) went to the consultation with two of their experts (waste of my time) after I spent all this time and effort collecting all the forms and applications that they asked me for (more time and money wasted) and in the end they tell me, Oh! I'm sorry , you DO NOT qualify for these programs?! WTH?
So there you have it...expect nothing from these people!
Its all a scam to collect your info and present it to whomever they report (some government agency I'm guessing) and tell them what a great job they are doing in "helping people" and it helps them keep their jobs .
This is my review.
On behalf of CHW, we are sorry that you were disappointed with our services, and please know that we constantly strive to make improvements that make things easier and clearer for customers on a regular basis. You were never required to take a class or meet with a coach prior to assessing your qualifications for down-payment assistance, nor do we charge anything for that assessment. In addition, we feel that investing time in preparation for sustainable homeownership and healthy household finances is no waste of time, for anyone. The down-payment assistance programs that we administer are precious resources that are designed to help low-to-moderate income buyers, and are provided as deferred loans to about 50 households per year. That being said, CHW helps hundreds of first time homebuyers each year, through preparation, market-beating home loans, 5-star realty services, and for some families of greatest need we also provide down-payment assistance. We can assure you that our 30+ year old organization is one that is trustworthy and produces results for & with our customers and residents. In addition, we are a nationally known best practice in the housing & finance / real estate industry. Sincerely, Community HousingWorks
CHW was instrumental to saving my home. I fell upon dificult times but did not want to lose my home. I worked with CHW, Ms. Regina Bradley Sturdivant, and was able to save my home and regain my confidence as a home owner. I was relieved to see that there are valuable resources out there that can assist people such as myself from losing our homes. Furthermore, I liked their services so much that I referred them to my brother and another close friend that was in simular situations. All of which had positive outcomes. Thank you CHW and Ms. Regina Bradley Sturdivant for outstanding service and support even when I saw no light at the end of my own tunnel.
Darryl - on behalf of CHW I'd like to say that we are so glad to have helped your family through those difficult times. Congratulations on taking the steps to save your home and helping others do the same!
I have worked with CHW for several years and these are the most passionate people you will ever meet in your life! Their mission is always at work through their employees, volunteers, Board members and residents. I am very lucky to be able to partner with CHW, this is an exceptional organization.
With help from CHW's awesome Financial Fitness Guru, Carmen Amigon, I learned how to improve my credit and keep my eye on my dream to save for a home. I increased my credit score by over 100 points in 6 months with Carmen's help.
As a single mother, I did everything possible to provide my son with a good stable home. I felt that after all of those years of hard work, it was time to start building wealth. I had the priviledge of meeting the CHW team long before I ever knew I would need their assistance. As a matter of fact, I helped host many of the trainings they provided. As I sat and listened, I realized I too could use their help. That's when I connected to Carmen. She was wonderful. We worked on a budget and gave me a good road map to help me purchase my home. It took awhile, but with new financial habits and dedication, I was able to pay off all of my debt and purchase my first home. I thank Carmen and the team at CHW for always being there when I needed them. Thank you for everything!
CHW was a blessing for me..i found myself in a financial bind, and fell behind on my mortgage payments.i found out about CHW,and walked in,and had regina as my counselor...she was a god send..she dealt with my bank, and helped me to get a modification for my home..about a year later, because of some medical issues i found myself behind again.i got in touch with regina, and she again was a tremendous help by pointing me in the right direction to get help again.the point to my story is that even after a year regina, and CHW were still there to help..without them i would have no roof over my head, and i owe regina, and CHW a debt of gratitude..
I was reluctant to make a phone call to ask for assistance with my mortgage loan situation. I finally called in February 2012. CHW provided a welcoming, very informative and comforting environment for me. I still remember Michael's name. He is the person that answer the phone and began my process. A few weeks later a met with Sergio, a financial counselor. Both made me feel at ease and answered all of the questions I had. I am still in my home. I am making better decisions about my financial situation. I am very grateful that CHW offers programs and education for the San Diego community.
I first learned about CHW when I was living in a CHW managed property. They offered money management classes that I signed up for...they were the best thing that I could have done for myself and my family. I see money differently, I look at credit differently; I have learned that there are no quick fixes when it comes to upping that credit score. You must inconvenience yourself a little and sacrifice a lot! I have been working with Carmen at CWH and she has been a great advisor and I consider her a friend, she has made me feel very comfortable; I feel that I can talk with her about all the dumb financial decision that I have made and she never judges me but offers great advice. I have fully enjoyed working with CHW financial department and home buying division and would recommend anyone to them for assistance with money management and financial advice.
I worked with CHW to get a loan for a new home. For starters, I would have never been able to get into such a beautiful home without the help and the programs available at CHW. Even though I am very responsible, I still learned some new things at the new homeowner's course that was valuable in me getting the best loan possible. Also, the seller asked for an incredibly fast close, and my team (and they really were a team) raced ahead of the clock and had everything ready to close 5 days ahead of time! When I tell people about my experience with CHW, they are stunned. CHW proves the exception when it comes to home buying in this crazy California market. I felt like I was kept in the loop the whole time and felt like I knew what was going on every step of the way. To top it off, we were able to do EVERYTHING through email so I didn't have to use any extra gas or waste any extra time making trips to and from CHW to sign papers.
Community Housing Works has been a terrific partner for Foundation for Women. CHW has provided training for our staff as well as for the women who come to FFW for our microcredit, education and business support services. CHW and FFW serve a similar population - those trying to achieve self-sufficiency through better financial practices and pursuit of income generation. It's a natural fit, and the staff and management of CHW really get this. Through their actions they truly embody the idea of collective impact. This approach of working together will acheive a common outcome -- a better community for all.
Due to a recent divorce I am in jeopardy of losing my house. The Credit Union that I have my mortgae through has been absolutely horrible. This has been the toughest time in my life. My Credit Union has caused me so much extra stress, unhappiness and helplessness. I don't want to give up though I want to exhaust all efforts to save my house. This is when I turned to Community Housing Works. What a great advocate for the people they are. I have been working with Regina Sturdivant and Karla Macias who have been absolutely wonderful in helping me. I highly recommend CHW they are such a great company and really there for the people. Regardless of what happens, I am very thankful for the help and encouragement they have given me.
Community HousingWorks is improving our community by providing beautifully planned affordable housing and by offering valuable services to the residents who live there. The newly renovated apartment complex that I toured in Poway far exceeded my expectations. I had no idea of all the services Community HousingWorks provides to help residents of all ages -- from children through seniors -- have better lives.
The information that I learned from CHW helped me to increase my credit score. I am forever grateful for that. I was able to negotiate some debts and pay them off. I was also able to reduce my spending with some of the tools that I received from the class. There was so much information that I obtained from taking this class. I have recommended it to quite a few of my friends. I look forward to working with them in the future when I am ready to buy my first home.
CHW helped me purchase my first home last month. I worked with both the Lending team and the Realty team to buy a previously foreclosed home that CHW purchased directly from the bank then renovated and resold to me and my husband. I also took the Homebuyer Education Class, which helped me to learn more about the process of purchasing a home. The staff was friendly and professional and helped me through the entire process. I feel very fortunate to have worked with CHW!
I was able to purchase my first home because of the assistance CHW offered me. After attending the Homebuyer Class I worked with a loan officer who told me about the down payment assistance programs. Soon after began working with a CHW realtor who was very professional and found me the place that I can now call my own!
I am a happy brand new homeowner! I have recently purchased my first home and because of CHW I was able to turn in all document required in order for me to get my FHA loan. I attended one of the many wonderful educational classes that CHW has to offer. I found Homeowner education class absolutely informative and helpful towards the purchase of my first home. Along with taking the class you receive a homeowner certificate that you will need to turn in with your paperwork towards the purchase of your new home. CHW made this possible with flexible class schedules including Saturday workshops like the one I attended.
Community Housing Works has helped me put school as a first priority and helped me manage my time, I am VERY thankful for that. Our coordinator is very patient when we dont understand or when we just dont care. I have met so many new people due to all the summits and classes that I have gone to, which can be fun sometimes. THE END.
I was referred to CHW by a good friend. After speaking with a counselor I learned that CHW offered classes for first-time hombuyers. I took the class and learned all of the steps in the process to prepare me to purchase my first home. When I was ready to purchase I worked with both a Lender and a Realtor from the organization that helped get me started. They let me know everything that was needed to close my escrow and helped to guide me through the process. Their team helped me to find a very spacious home in a beautiful neighborhood for an amazing price. Because of the experience & the guidance that I received from working with CHW I have acheived homeownership for the benefit of my family.
Due to my divorce I was losing my home it w as tramatic and stressful. I went to Community HousingWorks and received great advice and a sympathetic, compassionate ear. Without them I could not have had the courage to wend my way through the awful mess that I was in. I am now post short sale and am looking back and know that they gave me great advice and most of all hope. I refer them to everyone that is in this situation as well as when I get ready to purchase in a year or so, I intend to use their first time homebuyer services.
Community Housing Works is an amazing non profit that helped my family and I make a difference in our lives! I was fortunate enough to be able to be a resident of one of CHW's affordable apartment communities, participate in all of their financial and homebuyer workshops, gain one to one support from staff, and use their lending department to purchase my very first home! CHW's Lending staff was able to guide me in attaining a unique affordable home loan and down payment assistance, and essentially help make my dream of homeownership my reality! I went from struggling to feeling confident and capable, and I am thankful that I had CHW there to help me achieve! I would definitely recommend Community Housing Works to anyone!
Community housing works organization (Chworks.org) helped my family and I with the foreclosure process, helped us communicate with our lender and by taking their classes, thought us how to be financially fit. Without this great nonprofit organization, we would have been in serious shape and our situation could have been irreversible. Due to this great nonprofit organization, we were able to start all over again. Chworks.org have empowered us to become better future homeowners. If we ever needed help in the future, Chworks.org will be there for us. I really can't thank them enough for the wonderful things they have done for us.
My husband and I have been participating in numerous volunteer opportunities in the City Heights community of San Diego since 2004. One of the most effective events is CHW's FaceLift event, which, with hundreds of well-managed volunteers, has spruced up well over 500 homes for at-need families. While this event is an amazing opportunity for community, they have recently opened up a street-level realty office with lending assistance, and classes to help folks become first-time homeowners, while providing assistance to folks reentering the housing market. I have witnessed first-hand, numerous success stories. We are proud to volunteer with Community HousingWorks (CHW), and support their efforts on many levels.
